Thursday 9th July – Year 5

Good morning Year 5 – how are we all today? I do wish this rain would stop!!

Here are your tasks for today:

English

I’d like you to write a letter home to your family or to a friend. I’d like you to imagine you are abroad – use either your factfile work from Tuesday or your Arctic/Antarctic work from yesterday as you already have all of the facts to hand that you used. You will be writing from one of those places.

What would you write in your letter to tell them how your trip is going?

Try to include the following:

  • Remember that this letter is to family or a friend so it will be more informal/personal
  • Tell them what you have seen/experienced
  • Tell them what you haven’t done/experienced yet but will be doing shortly
  • Describe your favourite part of the trip so far – why was it your favourite?
  • Include your feelings/thoughts about your trip so far, remembering the things that you have done
  • Are you looking forward to getting home – are you enjoying the trip or not? Give reasons why/why not
  • Use facts from that you have found out this week – food, landmarks, festivals, cities, history, wildlife etc.

Maths

I’m giving you 2 lessons today as they are quite short. The first one something that we have already looked at so this is really revision.

This first lesson is about identifying and classifying triangles:

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-identify-describe-and-classify-triangles/activities/1

The next lesson looks at quadrilaterals (I love that word!)

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-describe-the-properties-of-quadrilaterals

As usual, tell me what you think of the lessons and at least one thing that you have learnt from each lesson.

Just a little quiz to finish off:

2Dshapes – new version

Geography

I thought it might be nice to have a look at mountains today. What is a mountain?

Here is a clip about some the worlds mountain ranges

This next powerpoint looks at features of mountains – there is a really nice video link on one of the slides too.

new – Lesson Presentation Features of Mountains

This powerpoint looks at how mountains are made.

New – Lesson Presentation How Mountains Are Made

I’d like you to create a poster about mountains, showing what you have learnt. You may want to also include any extra information that you either already know, or that you have found out for yourself.

Have fun today. Take care,

Mrs Millard and Mrs Munro XX

    dear mum
These past few days have been rough we had to go through a snow storm and me and the survivors came out with no injuries . We set up camp close to a cave so we wont be endangered by any glaciers or marine creatures. My 2 favorite activities are playing with the penguins and going fishing because the penguins remind me of the movie happy feet and when I go fishing its really relaxing . And I found a horn of a narwhale stuck in the ice so we dug it up and I’m bringing it home so I can remember Antarctica.

      Thanks Dan,

A great letter including some of the facts that you found out about the wildlife.
      Don’t forget apostrophes – won’t, it’s.
