Here is the next picture from our new story. It shows Will and some of the other boys after their football match.
Think about what you can see. What do you think the boys are saying to each other?
Now read the text below.
Answer the following questions (we will go through these together in the Zoom session).
- Who was watching the football match?
- How do we know that the two teams got on and were friendly with each other?
- When do the opposing team say they will come back and beat Will’s team?
- How are the opposing team getting back to their village? What does this suggest about them?
- How might Will be feeling?
Now let’s look at what we know about Will from yesterday. Would you add anything to this or move any of the statements from yesterday?
Writing task – Write the next extract of Will’s diary. This should be based around details of what we have read and discussed today. This extract should follow straight on from the one written yesterday and should be around 50 – 100 words.

Today we won the match 1-0 against the other team. It was good fun and we had a laugh with our friends. One of them even said they would beat us after the war. We’ll see if that’s true! Anyway, we had a bit of a laugh and a joke around until they had to walk home, which is five miles away! I went home, had some food and drink then chilled because I was so exhausted.

WE WON THE GAME, And I have scored the winning goal! The next match ‘after the war’ (it’ll probably be earlier) could be tighter so I should train with my team. After that I’ve got nothing to do except wait… Untill next year? Well I have to be prepared!

Great work Franek.
English
1. A group of small boys and a few old men were watching the football match.
2. As they were having jokes together.
3. After the war that was going on (most likely WW2)
4. By walking the five miles, this suggests that they were poor.
5. Happy and sad, he could be sad as he is poor or someone he knows had died, happy as he won the match.
I think I would move “he plays in a football team with his friends” to the second circle as we don’t know if they are his friends.
Continued diary-> After the match me, some of my friends and the opposing team had a little joke and had some fun. During the match the crowd was only a group of children and a few elderly people. The opposing team said that they will beat us after the war, but I didn’t think so. The opposing team started their 5 mile walk home and so did my team.
Continued diary
After the game my teammates and me sat on the nearby treestump with the other team joking and talking about the game, We all talked about the winning goal I had scored , the other team had to travel home 5 miles by walking and as they was leaving they joked that they would come back and beat us next time .

While imagining, I thought about what happened and for my future. The opposing team looked revengeful to play. Well even though I was exhausted, the opposing team looked like that they could play more but I appeared as that it was getting late. As we took a rest, we changed and helped our self. Later on, we played and enjoyed. As soon it was time, the church struck 5o’ clock. Before the opposing team left they smiled and looked at the log we sat on and went. I thought that one day it will get better.
Hello Hargun
This is a good effort but what do you mean by “one day it will get better”?
Do you think that Will is unhappy?
Mr Bushell
English

The difference between reversible and irreversible is that one can be changed into it’s previous form. The other can’t be changed back into it’s previous form.
Great work!
For example water can be changed into ice then it can be turned back into water. Then if you had bread you can heat it up and it will become toast, you can’t turn it back into bread.
Well done Owen, so water into ice is reversible, bread into toast is reversible!

English 50-100 words
Dear diary
The church clock struck five and the game was over. I was happy as I scored the winning goal but was too exhausted to celebrate . My friends and I took shelter under a tree to get out of the burning sun and have a drink of water. We all was joking and laughing and the opposing team said they will beat is next time. I then packed up my football kit and stared to walk the five miles home, but I was not sure if my feet could carry me there.
