Morning Year 6

Welcome to another day of madness!!

See you on the zoom register at 9:05

Warm up activity:

Have a look at this picture and think about:

  • What you can see
  • What sounds you would be able to hear
  • What it might smell like
  • What you might be able to taste
  • What it might feel like to touch it
  • How you would feel being there.

Write a description of this image. Remember to include lots of Year 6 writing skills and think about your use of punctuation.

Reading:

Below, I have attached some information about some of the characters that we will meet in Athens.

Take some time to read through them:

NPAT RSC Character Information – Egeus

NPAT RSC Character Information – Hermia

NPAT RSC Character Information – Lysander

NPAT RSC Character Information – Demetrius

NPAT RSC Character Information – Helena

NPAT RSC Character Information – Theseus

Task 1:

Write a brief description of each character based on what you have learnt about them.

Task 2:

Based on what you have read, are there any characters you think you will really like? Why? Are there any characters you think you will dislike? Why?

Writing:

Look again at this picture from yesterday:

Think back to some of the ideas that you had about it.

Today, we are going to start a descriptive piece of writing about this setting.

How you do this is your choice. It could be:

  • a description saying what you can see, hear etc
  • a diary imagining that you are there
  • a story set here
  • or something of your own choice.

Which ever you choose, make sure the focus of your writing is a description.

I have started the description below to give you some ideas.

Ancient, that is how I would describe this vast, stone-made city.
The buildings look as it they have been there since before the Ancient Egyptians yet they
are still standing powerfully for the world to see. I can imagine a noble, royal family
ruling over their kingdom from the heights of the palace walls; men and women selling
home-made gifts at daily markets and children laughing and running though small gaps
in between the buildings.

Now, it is your turn. Feel free to improve mine, use it as inspiration or just write your own. I look forward to seeing them!

Maths:

Starter challenge:

Send me the answers to these riddles:

I am thinking of a number ….

I add 5 to the number

I double the answer

I subtract 12

I end up with 12

What was my number?

I am thinking of a number ….

I halve the number

I add 3 to the number

I multiply the number by 4

I end up with 44

What was my number?

I am thinking of a number ….

I subtract 7

I divide the number by 5

I square the number

I end up with 16

What was my number?

Main activity:

Today we will be focusing on multiplication strategies for whole numbers and decimals including long multiplication using the column method.

First try these:

  1. 632 x 7 =
  2. 1205 x 6 =
  3. 25.3 x 4 =
  4. 25 x 12 =
  5. 135 x 24 =

Send me over your answers so I can check them for you. If you get stuck on any then e-mail me and I will talk you through it before you move on.

When you are ready, move on to these:

Maths

Send me through your work when you are finished and if you would like me to send you a challenge, let me know!

Science

Our topic this term is all about classification. Do you know what that means?

This week’s question is:

What is classification?

Have a look at the images below:

Why have these images been sorted into groups?

How have the been sorted? What might each group be called?

Today’s vocabulary:

Classification – sorting things into sets or classes which have features in common

Subdivide – to classify into smaller and smaller groups

Organism – an individual living thing

Taxonomy – the process of naming and classifying living things into groups according to their similarities and differences.

Task:

Find a pack of playing cards (if you haven’t got one either draw some or use cards from a board game i.e. Monopoly houses)

Can you think of a way to classify (organise into groups) the cards?

How many other ways can you think of organising/classifying the cards?

Record your ideas in the table below.

cards

Have a think about where else we might use classification in every day life. Think about in school, libraries, supermarkets, sports etc.

Have a look at this information below:

Use this website to find out more information:

https://www.dkfindout.com/uk/animals-and-nature/what-is-living-thing/

Task:

Write an explanation about what you have learnt today.

Spanish

Hola.

In today’s Spanish class, we will be learning about the days of the week.

Do you know any?

Work through the information and tasks below:

Spanish-KS2-lesson-7-days

Computing

Task 1:

We are going to be spending some time this term learning how to use the different Office software including Word, PowerPoint etc.

Today, the focus is on Word.

I would like you to spend some time on working looking at how to change the font, the size of the words, the colour etc.

Use the PowerPoint below to help you.

Word PowerPoint

Task 2:

Continue with the TT Rockstars competition.

Well done for another hard day’s work Year 6!

See you in the morning.

Miss Kinsella and Mrs Maruzza

P.S please bring some paper, a pencil and some scissors to the zoom in the morning

warm up. I can see patches of white snow and a isolated house at the back there are also snow covered trees.

I can hear snow falling of the trees and the trees rustling in every corner.

I can smell cold water with a hint of salt and the trees would taste like a green vegetable that I’ve never tried before.

If i was there i would enjoy the touch of the snow.

Beautiful, thats how I describe this! The cold fresh air and the glistening snow pulling my mind telling me to go outside. I coundnt resist the snow and the smell of fresh green trees. I’m in a winter wonderland it’s like being at Charlie and the chocolate factory but instead of chocolate it’s snow!! My house is so comforting because its small and the magical outside makes me feel warm and cozy so I would have more easy sleeping…. Franticly the front door busted open and it was snow storm,I ran outside and grabbed a rope that was in the garden I un ravelled it and put the other end on the door handle so I could slam the door shut but the wind was to powerful it pushed my o to the door and I fell and coundnt remember anything but then I woke up and it was just a nightmare…

I see snowy trees with the feeling of exciment. The cold air brewing through my window but it did t do anything because I had a hot chocolate and a blanket wrapped around me making me feel in the Xmas spirit!! I would hear the crunch in the snow because of the animals. Also the rustling of the trees because the wind was so powerful it sounded like a tornadoooooo…… It smells dilightful, the trees are fresh and green and 5he snow glistening makes it look like a dream so it smells like daisy’s and that wintery feeling. I would be able to taste the could air when I breath in and the smell of the trees is like I could taste it. When I would touch it it would be cold and wet it also hard because the first time you play with it it doesn’t leak through your gluves but about 2 minutes later it will start to feel wet. If I was there I would feel like I’m in a magical dream I love snow and the smell of fresh trees. The reason why I would say I was in dream is because in the UK we haven’t had proper snow in ages so if we had snow I would go out in it all day long because I need to make the most of it 🙂

The white snow piles make me shiver with excitement. The outragous looking house looks like it’s been there for years [centuries to be clear]. The piles of snow are as stunning as a fluffy cloud floating in the sky.

What everything looks like: The snow, the one that is in my garden; the trees, the ones i see in people house on Christmas; the isolated house, the one i play with.

The freezing weather makes me stiff as ice if i stay there to long. The beautiful atmosphere glimmers in the distance when i look from my window.

I can see pure white snow scattered around my house. It is as deep as an ocean , when you step in it it will be really soft and cosy. Calmly, the snow falls down covering my feet with tiny little snow flakes.

If you are really quiet you might be able to hear the snow falling down. Quietly the wind howls and the snow moves away

    Egeus
I feel like Egeus just wants what is best for Hermia so that is why he has found her some one to marry.

    Hermia
I think Hermia doesn’t want to listen to other people she just wants the best for her and what she wants. like haw she wants to marry Lysander.

    Demetrious
He is stubborn and if he doesn’t get what he wants he will get angry.

    Lysander
I feel like he would do anything to marry the woman that he wants to marry.

    Helen

She will do anything to get the person she wants like Lysander.

    Theseus
He is the person who will do anything to say sorry.

    Dear Diary,

I’ve just had a wonderful adventure in the Athens. I’ve seen so many ancient, beatiful buildings. My most favorite part was the history from Midsummer nights dream. The mountains were so high you could scrape the clouds. That is how huge the mountains were.

    My poem!
    A snap shot in time,
    Rundown buildings packed so tight,
An amazing city filled with history,
In the ancient stone made walls of Athens

    Built high in the hills,
A place to see, a place to be,
    An explorers fantasy,
    A place of tranquillity

    Dry, hot and deserted,
An uneven ground of sand and stone,
Vast pillars that tell a story,
    Long long ago

    An ancient world of beauty,
    Full of myths and legends,
    Religion and culture,
God’s of war and God’s of love,
    Uniting the world back together!

    Warm up,

I can see deep, winter white snow which is on top of a vast house , I can also see trees which is full with fresh, white, winter snow. The creamy , white winter snow tingles as I press my warm foot into the snow and comes out freezing as ever. It feels freezing and cold as you walk out the door of your house which in doors its nice and warm . I can hear the birds singing a nice winter song in the morning. It smells like smoke coming out of your chimmnly and drifting into the nice winter air. You may taste the cold winter snow that is like a big snow cone. It may feel like a big , evil monster breathing the most cold and evil ice breathe. I would feel the cold ,fresh air flowing onto my face.

When you classify something that’s when you seperate it into different sections like numbers or colour like a deck of playing cards. You can subdivide by making the groups even smaller than before.

    LIVING THINGS
Living thing are things that can move, reproduce,is sensitive, grows, respirates, excrete and is nutritous

    MOVEMENT
