Year 5- Tuesday 5th January 2021

Good morning year 5.   We hope you all had a good holiday.

We will be doing a register zoom meeting every morning to check how you’re doing, to go through the work for the day and so you can ask any questions.

Each day there will be some Maths,  some English and some topic work.

You can reply to each activity on the blog, or you can work on paper and send a photo or a video of your work to the email address

yearfive@lingsprimary.org.uk

    2. Villain and a twist-small one.
    3. Hermie’s friend- because the way it is, is like that that it wouldn’t keep the plan going or Puck because the problem was sorted out otherwise it wouldn’t have gone right.

 What does one of the most ancient laws in Athens say? A daughter should marry a man of the father’s choice.

 Who is Egeus? A tirade

 What does Egeus want Hermia to do?
He wanted Hermia to marry Demetrius.

     What does Theseus suggest?

orld War I (or the First World War, often abbreviated as WWI or WW1) was a global war originating in Europe that lasted from 28 July 1914 to 11 November 1918. Contemporaneously known as the Great War or “the war to end all wars”,iit led to the mobilisation of more than 70 million military personnel, including 60 million Europeans, making it one of the largest wars in history. It is also one of the deadliest conflicts in history, with an estimated 9 million combatant deaths and 13 million civilian deaths as a direct result of the war, while resulting genocides and the related 1918 Spanish flu pandemic caused another 17–100 million deaths worldwide, including an estimated 2.64 million Spanish flu deaths in Europe and as many as 675,000 Spanish flu deaths in the United States.

On 28 June 1914, Gavrilo Princip, a Bosnian Serb Yugoslav nationalist, assassinated the Austro-Hungarian heir Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo, leading to the July CrisisIn response, Austria-Hungary issued an ultimatum to Serbia on 23 July. Serbia’s reply failed to satisfy the Austrians, and the two moved to a war footing. A network of interlocking alliances enlarged the crisis from a bilateral issue in the Balkans to one involving most of Europe. By July 1914, the great powers of Europe were divided into two coalitions: the Triple Entente, consisting of France, Russia, and Britain; and the Triple Alliance of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. The Triple Alliance was only defensive in nature, allowing Italy to stay out of the war until April 1915, when it joined the Allied Powers after its relations with Austria-Hungary deteriorated. Russia felt it necessary to back Serbia, and approved partial mobilisation after Austria-Hungary shelled the Serbian capital of Belgrade, which was a few miles from the border, on 28 July. Full Russian mobilisation was announced on the evening of 30 July; the following day, Austria-Hungary and Germany did the same, while Germany demanded Russia demobilise within twelve hours. When Russia failed to comply, Germany declared war on Russia on 1 August in support of Austria-Hungary, the latter following suit on 6 August; France ordered full mobilisation in support of Russia on 2 August.

How I think world war one started.

There was this man called Archduke Fanz Ferinand. On June 28th 1914 a man called Gavrilo shot Archduke which could have caused war. The mans death could have caused people to fight.

Countreys have to attack other countreys to get to the coutrey they won’t which causes more conflict between countreys.

The WW1 started with the assasination of Austro- Hungarian arch duke Franz Ferdinard.
He went on a nice drive in a open top car, assasins were waiting for him on the way and threw bombs at his car but they missed and blew up officers behind Franz. He tries to visit the officers in the hospital but the driver takes the wrong turn and they get stuck by one of the assasins which shot Franz Ferdinard. Austria-Hungary is angry about this and thinks the Serbian goverment has something to do with this so Austro-Hungary declared war on the Serbs.

    Midsummer Night’s Dream Task 1
    1. It reminds me of another of the Shakespeare’s story Romeo and Juliet, as the plot is very similar. There are four lovers Hermia, Lysander, Helena and Demetrius. Hermia is in love with Lysander, but is to be wed by Demetrius, things get more complicated, when fairies use their flower potion.

    2. The setting is on a court to start with, then it moves to the forest inhabited by the fairies.

    3. The main character for me is Lysander as he was affected by the fairies potion and I found it unique.

It does not remind me of a Shakespeare story.

Your answers will go into a box and one of the adults will need to approve them. It might take a little while. Let me have a look and see if I can find them. There are a few Alex’s in school which probably doesn’t help.

    TASK 1.
No, the story dosen’t remind me of any shakespeare’s other storys.

I think that the setting is in the forest.

I think that the main character in the story might be Hermia because Hermia’s farther Egeus wants hermia to marry Demetrius, and also the story is about love and when you love someone after, you want to marry them.

    TASK 2.
    Only got 3 right:(

    TASK 3.
Girls can not pick there love only there farthers can pick who they will be together with. and if the daughter obeys her farther they might have to forfeit there life or something else bad.

    Egeus is Hermia’s farther.

Egeus wants Hermia to marry demetrius.

    Stuck on this question..

I think what would happen next might be Demetrius and Hermia get married

    SCIENCE

The WWI started after a man called Gravilo Princip shot and killed Archduke Franz Ferdinad and the austrian hungarian empire. After that happened, The WWI started…Tension is Europe had been rising. In the 20th century all countries in Europe made a deal to look after eachother. Then the british, french, russian joined up to create a big alliance called allied powers. The german empire teamed up with Austria hungary. And were known to be called the central powers. with bulgaria and otonom empire by turkey. The assasination to Archduke Franz Ferdinand led to events that meant even if they didnt want to fight they made promises that had to be kept. the 28th july 1914 austria hungary declared war on serbia. Russia asked germany to austria hungary to keep back. And when germany refused russia prepeared to fight. 1st of August germany decleared war on russia to defend austria hungary. France and russia now had to get involved. 3rd of august germany had a blance to beat france QUICKLY. But it meant that they had to invade belgium. 4th of august britian protested that the invasion of belgium and decleared war on germany. And the WWI lasted 4 years of madness in the world, bringing more countries along.

Some people have said that the story reminds them of Romeo and Juliet, but it also reminds me of Shylock and Jessica from A Merchant of Venice. Can you say why we think this?

If you had to blame 1 person or country for the war, who would you say?

    Task 1

    1. It reminds me of romeo and juliet as there’s secret love, revenge
    and fighting.
    2. The main setting could be the magical forest as it has magical
creatures and is where the two lovers go in secret.
    3. It could be Egeus as he is a nobleman and probably solves the
    problem about the lovers.

    Task 2

Mum will send the photo of task 2.

    Task 3

    1. The law said that a girl must marry a man of her farthers choice.
    2. Egeus is a tyrant.
    3. Egeus wants Hermia to marry a young noble called Demetrius.
    4. Theseus gave hermia 4 days to think and can pause inbetween the
    4 days
    5. Eventually the 4 lovers love the wrong people but then they sort
    it all out.

What does one of the most ancient laws in Athens say? The daughter has to marry a man that her father wants/chooses.

    Who is Egeus? A tyrant

What does Egeus want Hermia to do? To marry Demetrius

What does Theseus suggest? He gave 4 days to think

What do you think will happen? Hermia will finally go with her true love

On 28th June 1914 Serbian man called Gaurilo Princip shot and killed Archduke Ferdinand from Austria
    Hungary.
Tension had been rising in Europe for many years.
The British French and Russian created Allied Powers.
Germans teamed up with Austria Hungary with Bulgaria and Ottoman empire ruled by Turkey.
The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand started the war.
On 28th July Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia.
Russia then asked Germany to get Austria Hungary to hold back. They declined.
On 1st August Germany declared war on Russia, so France had to get involved too.
Germany decided to attack Belgium, on 4th August 1914 Britain protested on this attack and declared war on Germany.
To summarise, main reasons for WWI were the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria Hungary and rising tension in Europe between Central Powers and Allied Powers.
