Thursday 14th May 2020 – Home Learning Tasks.

Good morning Year 2! Over half way through another week of home learning! Well done!

Here are your home learning tasks for today. Remeber you can comment on the blog or email your work to us as we love to see what you have been doing. Have a tremendous Thursday!

Miss Battams and Miss Duncan.

English Reading.

Here is the next part of our story for you to read. We would like you to read this part of the text and we would like you add in the words that you think could be missing so that the text makes sense.

Alice missing words   Click on this link to access the larger text. You can print it out from here if you wish or you can write a list of the missing words in order.

English Writing.

Our story this week was set in a fantasy land. We would like you to create a story plan for your own story set in a fantasy world. You can use my example and the template below to help you plan the parts of your story. Remember, when we plan our writing we do not need to write in lots of details, tell the story or write in long sentences. this plan is just notes about the key points and key words or ideas we could include when we do the proper written piece.

story plan   this is a link to a blank template you can print or use to create your plan. This can be printed from here if you wish. You can use my example in the bottom photograph below to help you complete yours.

Maths.

This week we are continuing with a recap of addition looking at some of the different strategies we have used in class to teach this operation. You should solve the calculations by recording your working out. Remember, some questions you get extra points for showing how you solved the problem so this is a skill we should practice even if we already know the answer.
For these questions you need to draw the resources you need. Use the photographs below to see how you should record your working out today. You can use any of the methods below to solve the calculations, but you should be able to show us how you have worked it out and not just write down the answer to the question.

35 +7 =

43 + 25 =

10 + 56 =

49 + 11 =

28 + 28 =

Whe you’ve done the questions above, have a go at these. You might need to re-write the order of the sum to help you before you try to solve it.

? = 26 +15

? = 39 + 27

54 + ? = 66

37 + ?  = 47

? + 72  = 91

Phonics

It is important that we practice spelling phonetic sounds in all of the different ways they can be written. It helps us to read and write words that they are in several times so you should follow all the steps to help you practice.
We are going to focus on the sound ‘l’ pronounced ‘l’ as in lip.

There are 6 different spellings of this sound. These have all been taught to your child in school already. This sound can be spelt as:
l as in lip
ll as in fill
le as in apple
el as in camel
al as in metal

il as in pencil

Can you read these words with the sound ‘l?

lean, pulling, topple, petal, cancel, medal

Can you write the words below thinking about which spelling of the sound they have? Ask an adult to read the word for you to so you can try to spell it. Remember there is one word for each spelling of the sound so you can’t use the same spelling more than once.

lastly, telling, ripple, pixel, pedal, pupil

Can you sort these words into the correct boxes? Look carefully at the spellings of the sound in each word. You might want to draw the table to help you.

Common Exception Word Spellings.

This week we will be taking another focussed look at these spellings as it is very important we can all read and spell these. Today the words have been spelt incorrectly. These are sometimes how we see them spelt in your books! Can you correct the spellings. You have the list of works in the front of your reading record book that you can use to help you.

clyum                                              howuld

stayk                                               farther

ower                                               cood

clofs                                               misstur

kiund                                             mowst

towld                                             prittee

Computing.

We would like you to have a think about how computers are used around the world. If you can, watch this short video to get some ideas of how people find computers useful when doing their jobs.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zymykqt/articles/zcmyvcw

Can you think about where people might use computers, and create a list showing the jobs and how the computers help people to do their work?

Story Time

Something different for a story today! It’s another story telling task where you get to tell the story. But this time you have to roll a dice. Whatever number your dice lands on you have to include that object in your story. Maybe you could take it in turns with somebody to roll the dice and add the next part of the story! You can choose any of the objects or words from that number to add so you can use the same number more than once. See how far you can get creating a funny story!

    ENGLISH – READING

Alice entered the SPOOKEY garden and she met three gardeners that were in the shape of playing cards. The gardeners two, five and seven were arguing with each other AS they painted the white roses on the rose trees red. They noticed Alice, and the gardeners explained that they had planted white ROSE trees by mistake and that they must PAINT them red before the Queen of Hearts COMES out. Just then, the QUEEN of HEARTS arrived, surrounded by a great group of living playing cards. The gardeners lie on their BEND to bow before the queen. The Queen asked the GARDENERS about the trembling gardeners. Alice replies rudely, and the queen SHOUTED “off with her head”! Alice went off TO WATCH the Queen to play croquet.
Alice finds it difficult understanding the curious game of croquet being TOLD by the Queen. The croquet ground is bumpy, the croquet balls are LITTLE hedgehogs, and the mallets are TALL flamingos. The playing cards stand on all fours to make the arches that the balls are ROLL through. As she plays, the Queen who does not like losing starts to shout and gets ANGRY. Alice tried to KEEP away from the croquet match, but catches sight of the Cheshire Cat’s EYES. The Cheshire Cat asks her how she is getting on, and Alice begins to complain ABOUT the Queen. The King sees the Cheshire CAT and becomes angry and calls for the Queen to remove the Cheshire Cat. The Queen orders “off WITH his head” but the Cheshire Cat completely vanishes.

Great work Candice. Just be careful with missing word tasks as you can only add in one word per space so you have to think about which word you need if you have more than one. Miss Battams 🙂
