Thursday 30th April- Year 5
Buenas dias! Como estas?
Good day. How are you?
Remember what Mrs Millard explained yesterday- we are giving our certificates this week, based not just on who completes their blog work, but also on who “purple pens” their work- that includes those replying by email. We have been sending feedback to all of you, but you do need to use it!
Jolly well done to our amazing bloggers yesterday – Dan, Leon, Jessica, Jaynelle, Aamirat, Dhanshri and a great e mail from Tanisa. Super well done to Aamirat and Dhanshri for also responding to the previous days work.
English
For question 3, remember what we have learnt about summarising this year (bullet points, short answers explaining the main ideas)
For question 4, make sure you explain your suggestion with evidence from the text!
Maths
What do you know about perimeter?
Have a look at this
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zvmxsbk/articles/zsr4k7h
Now try and solve this
History
Greece was the first country to create democracy- in fact even the word democracy is Greek! Find out about how their government worked. Share 5 facts with the class.
From what you have learnt about the government, trials and the Olympics in Ancient Greece, over the past 2 weeks, what can you tell me about women in Ancient Greece?
Have a great day!
Maths
4 + 12 + 4 = 20
12 + 20 = 32
32 x 2 =64
64 is the perimeter.
Great working.
History
In ancient Greece, they had three types of government;
Democracy; lead by an assembly of people.
Monarchy; lead by a member of royalty.
Oilgarchy: lead by a small amount of people.
Well done Sim! Have you discovered how they decided who would form the government in democracy?
Maths the promoter is 32 because 10add10add6add6
=32 that’s how I know
Close Leon, you’ve added up one long and one short side, but there are 4 sides… what do you need to do to find the whole answer?
Hello Mrs Leeming,
Here is my English from yesterday. I did all the work bit didn’t post on the blog sorry.
The Olympics was a festival where over 50,000 people went to watch or compete, women were not allowed to compete. The Ancient Greeks didn’t win medal’s but they won a wreath of leaves and they believe they also ‘’are touched by God’’. The Olympic games still go on today, there are summer and winter Olympic games and there has been 28 summer games in total.
Hi
Great work Lydia, in your first sentence, do you think you need a conjunction to link the clause about women, or could it be a separate sentence?
purple pen work;
I am going change the comma to however.
Great editing Lydia!
They had a lot of people like 50.00 maybe there was a lot of people the rest i don’t know about
Close Leon 280 + 220
hello mrs leeming for English. 1] there was 280 men but now theirs 220.
2]the two words for reccomened are suggestion and purposed .
3]there was 280 men but now theirs 220 also the pholispher questioned about god .
4]I think they might of died because of the gods and the disobayment
Evie, have another look, 280 men voted that he was guilty, and 220 voted that he was innocent, how many men altogether?
maths I think most even numbers are a perimeter because say 64 is a perimeter and it is 20 because 4+12+4=20 2×32=64
If is possible to have an odd perimeter, what if I have an equilateral triangle with 3cm sides… what would my perimeter be?
history
democrace.a big group off people brought together
also ancient Greece is one of the most popular places in the world for their tornamonts and accations
thank yoy mrs leeming see you tomorrow
mrs leeming their are 500 men together
Yes! Well done. Now look at the final sentence of the text… what do you think Socrates punishment was in the end?
English
1. 220 to 280 men are on the jury.
2. Suggested and Proposed mean the same as recommended.
3.
*Socrates questioned Gods if they were real
*Found guilty
*Punishment is death
*Socrates didn’t agree with jury
*He was sarcastic
4. I think Socrates got killed because it says in the text “But he left them little choice by not treating the trial seriously”.
I think 1. Is 280+220=500
Have another look at question 1, 220 voted him innocent, 280 votes him guilty. How many were on the jury altogether?
Great work Lydia! Well done for using bullet points and for using evidence in your answer for number 4!
Good morning Mrs Leeming, here is my English for today. 1. 500 men were in the jury.
2. Suggested and purposed.
3. Socrates was found guilty by a vote of 280-220 men.
4. He might of got killed because he wasn’t treating the trial seriously.
Great work Dhanshi,
I think in your summary you could mention what he was on trial for…?
And what words hint that he got killed?
He was on trial because he questioned the existence of God .
Morning Mrs Milliard,
This is my HISTORY!
Democracy : rule by the people.
Facts about Ancient Greece women,
Women had to stay at home and done house work. The men would not let there wives out of there houses. Women married to a wealthy men were confined to there homes. Poor women had more freedom as the wealthy women because they couldn’t afford as many slaves
sorry I meant Mrs Leeming
That’s ok Jess.
Great research Jessica! Being a woman in Ancient Greece was not much fun.
DId you discover anything about government in ancient Greece?
HISTORY:there are three types of government
Democracy:the whole population .
Monarchy: one person.
Oligarchy a small group of people.
Did you manage to find out how the Ancient Greeks chose who was in charge of their country?
MATHS
The width of one is 4 so on one rectangle there would be two 4 cm.
4+ 4= 8
4+4 =8
8+8=16
4times 3 is 12
12+ 12+12+12=48
48+ 16=64
64 is the perimeter.
Great work!
Hi Mrs Leeming this is my history work
1. Ancient Greece had a warm, dry climate as it has today.
2. Owning slaves was a considerd thing in ancient Greece but only the wealthy could afford them.
3. Girls didn’t go to school in ancient Greece.
4. In Greece boys went to school at the age of seven.
5.Most Greek women didn’t get much freedom.
Great research Jaynelle. Did you discover anything about the government in Ancient Greece?
The total of wide rectangles is 20.cm
Did you look at the bitesize website that explains what perimeter is Alex?
Perimeter is the measurement all the way around a shape.
You are correct, the shape is 20cm wide. But can you work out the perimeter?
1) 500 men were in the jury
2) proposed and suggested
3)someone witnessed a trial of a fine man, the jury found him guilty and though a death penalty was sensible.
4) the Socrates didn’t offer which could of put them in a position of the jury voting for them as he didn’t take the trial serious the jury did not support his view.
Maths ) 64cm
History)
1) he had power, kept control of his civilisation, he kept voting compulsory also he made other specific roles for people who were close in line to him.
2) Women weren’t allowed to participate in any sports only men were allowed.
Great work Dan.
What do you think was Socrates punishment in the end? Which words tell you this?
Maths
The perimeter is the measurement of the outside of an object or area.
The 3 rectangles in the centre – each one is 4cm so 3×4=12cm. That’s how I how I got the longest side of the small rectangle.
I added the 2 4cm bits to the 12m. 4+4+12=20.
20+20=40
40+24=64
Well done for showing your working out. You are correct.
1.
1. there was 500 men in the jury
2.charged suggested
3. because Socrates he don’t realy belive in the existence of the gods the court found him guilty
4.he DIES
There was 500 men in the jury
Well done Alex,
I think for number 2, proposed and suggested. They both have the idea of saying something but giving someone a choice. charged is usually more aggressive.
Which words make you think he died at the end?
Democracy-rule by the people
Monarchy-rule by an individual person
Oligarchy-rule by a select group of peoples
Tyranny-rule by an individual who had power by unconstitutional
Well done Alex.
Did you find out which people were in charge during democracy? How did they become in charge of Ancient Greece?
The total of perimeter is 32
Getting there. That’s one long and one short side. But there are 4 sides, what do you need to do to find the measurement all the way around?
History
Democracy means ruled by the people.
Slaves and women could not vote.
People took turns to speak they had the time of water pouring into another jar.
Men could get rid of other people the didn’t like by putting their name on pottery.
There name had to be written on pottery 600 times for them to be banished.
Great facts Lydia. Do you think this sounds like a fair system?
500 men were on the jury.
Suggested and purposed.
I witnessed a trial of men a philosopher questioning existence of gods, guilt of the vote 280 to 220 he was mad.
I feel like they left them no choice but death because he did not take court seriously.
4+12+4=20
12+20=32
32×2=64
Well done Aamirat, you are correct.
Women in Greece had less rights than the men in Greece unable to vote, own land or inherit.A women’s place was at home and raising the children
Yes, so you wouldn’t be allowed at school, and I couldn’t be a teacher. Doesn’t sound like much fun to me!
English:
1.There were 500 people on the jury
2.Suggested and recommended. Because i couldn’t find another
3.A spectator witnessed trial of a man and then jury found him gulity and the jury thought that a death sentence was the right choice.
4.Socrates dies in the end
Maths
4 + 4 = 8 + 12=20 + 12 = 32 times by 2 = 64
64 is the perimeter
Great work, all correct!
History:
Women had to obey there father and weren’t and women were looked upon by men.
The official name of Greece is the Hellenic Republic.
Greece is located in southeast Europe, close to both Africa and Asia.
In 2011 the population of Greece was around 11 million.
The capital and largest city in Greece is Athens.
Around two thirds of the Greek population live in urban areas
Well done Zain, great to hear from you.
Our history is Ancient Greece, it can be a bit confusing because there is still the country of Greece.
It sounds like some of your research is about now, instead of the Ancient Country.
