Wednesday 25th March – Year 5

Hello Year 5 – we hope you are keeping yourselves safe and are enjoying your time at home with family.

Here are today’s activities:

  • English – Following yesterday’s post, write a letter to the Prime Minister offering your opinion about what is happening at the moment. Tell him the benefits about what is happening and also any negative points. What else could be done? What could you do personally to help the national effort? Remember you punctuation and organise your letter into paragraphs.
  • Maths –Number puzzle

Can you create another example of your own?

  • P.E. – Can you create a new game to play at school? It needs to be a game that a class could play (imagine playing it in your P.E. session), although it can be played within smaller groups. Think about the following:

– How many people can play and what does each person need to do?

– What equipment will you need and how will it be used?

– How will any scores be earnt and can you loose points too?

– How do you win the game?

You will need to list the equipment, rules and instructions to play the game. If you have enough people at home, you could play the game to see if it   works in the at that you intended.   You could also draw the instructions if this is easier and put them into your home learning packs.

Keep learning and keep smiling!

Mrs Millard X

    Dear Prime Minister,

I am here to view the advantages and disadvantages of the Corona virus.

Firstly, the Corona virus is making the UK’s population sink. With lots of people die from this Corona virus Outbreak. Secondly, it has made us decrease our business development as a country.

Alternatively, it has helped us decrease our pollution because factories have closed.

    Best wishes,
    Simar

If factories have closed, does this affect our population? Or did you mean the working population?

    Dear Mr Boris Johnson,
Firstly, I would like to thank you for making the decisions you have made. I agree with some, but others I’m not sure about.
Although I know some parents have to work, I think schools should be shut for everybody. For example, if a person went to the hospital with symptoms, the people that work at the hospital will have a very high chance of getting the virus and if they then went home to their children, their children will then also get it and they will then go to school and spread the germs. I think the schools should reopen when the virus has died down and it is safe to be around others.
Moreover, I believe the benefits of staying inside are that the world is being able to breathe a little more because things that produce pollution like cars, aeroplanes and trains are not being used regularly.
I think that we are forgetting about the homeless. It is important at this time that we look after them. What they need more than anything is somewhere safe to stay. They need somewhere to wash their hands and somewhere to be away from other people. I think that the empty hotels should be used for the poor, homeless people. The hotel rooms are being wasted. Instead of this we could keep more people safe.
When I saw the empty shelves in shops it made me feel angry because people were being selfish and not saving things for other people. If there are any people that don’t have something they need, they won’t be able to buy them because the greedy people took it all for themselves. I wish that all the shops had a limit to what people could buy instead of just some of them. I think the government should have told them to limit their items.
I am trying really hard to do everything the government have said to do to stop it spreading. I am washing my hands regularly and not going out of my house only to walk my dogs.
Thank you for reading my thoughts and feelings.
    Yours Sincerely
    Lydia Whitestone

Great writing both of you. Lydia I love your points about the homeless! Have you thought about going into politics?

    Dear Boris Johnson,

Firstly, all the decisions you have made are great there are some pro’s and con’s to staying home and here are the main ones.

First pro on the list is that we are preventing this virus from spreading and that’s what we need to do with any outbreak and we are protecting our self from population wipe out.

One of the cons is homeless people they will be more exposed to the virus as they live on the dirty streets during the struggle of the virus. This could also be a risk for people in homes as the homeless people will the get the virus and then spread it without knowing they have it. So to solve this situation we should put the homeless people in apartments for free till the virus is over or they get on their feet.
