Challenge 1

Challenge 2

Science- 90 minutes- Zoom at 2.00

If you join the zoom- you don’t need to look at the powerpoint

But you might need-

an empty bottle,  a sock (preferable a clean one), some pebbles or stones,  a piece of kitchen towel, some muddy water ready for after the lesson.

If you miss the zoom the powerpoint and your activity are below.

Warm up-  I accidentally spilt some marbles and paperclips into my porridge.   How can I separate the 3 materials without touching any of them?

Now work through the powerpoint.

science

Activity-

You have been stranded on a desert island.   You managed to put an empty bottle, a pair of clean sock and a roll of kitchen towel off your boat before it sank.  There are also pebbles around the beach and several trees. Now you need to sort out a safe source of drinking water.

On the island there is a small stream, but it is muddy and it doesn’t look too safe.

Design (and test) a method of filtering your water to clean out as much of the mud as possible to make it safe to drink.

What else could you do to improve the cleanliness of the water?

Spanish- 30 minutes

Today let’s talk about the weather.

Task 1

Work through the website and try the quiz

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zh7wqp3/articles/zr274xs

Task 2

Can you translate my sentence?   I’ve used the word hoy,  which means today.

Me gusto mucho Verano porque hace calor.   Pero hoy hace fresco.

Task 3

Tell me something about the weather in Spanish.

It is World book day on Thursday.    The author David Walliams has done an assembly to get us ready for it!

    Dear Mom and Dad,

As you see, we have joined the army. We haven’t joined without no reason; we have done it for your and England’s victory as Germany are taking power over Europe. I know that I have risked my life but this is for my country and I don’t fear anything. I am brave but I have worked until this day and no matter what happens, I will save England. Not just for you, for my friends and my country. So please try to understand me and I will be enough for you to love me. The concepts is because of Germany but, I promise about that! Don’t worry, I will be looking forward to see you saying well done my proud son!

    Sincerely your son.

      Great work Hargun.
I agree, I think a lot of the people cheering are proud of the boys for joining up, and maybe even jealous that they aren’t old enough to go themselves.
Your letter is very persuasive and firm. He has made his choice and is standing by it.

    Dear mum and dad,

I have something really really important to tell you both. Tomorrow, I will be leaving home early to go to the barracks and start training because I have decided to join the army to help our country fight Germany. I am going with my friends because I didn’t want them to go on their own, we will stick together. I swear I will be home by Christmas, well, hopefully. I know it is dangerous and I am a bit scared, but I have to this to protect this country and you both. We will be leaving in four days. I hope you’re not too upset and I hope you are proud of me.

    From your loving son, Will.

Billy stepped up to sign up, and he did! Then Freddie signed up to not leave Billy, then Lacey had to sign up to look after Billy. Then I had no choice but to join too. I promise to be back! I think when I’ll be back you’ll kill me with hugs and shouts but I belive that I wouldn’t mind. In >4 days< I will be at the Barracks. Have fun with me before I'll go off! After Monday, I will leave early. Not to go to school, work or to the field. Or even to my friends. But to the railway, so I could get to the barracks and meat my other companions. I wish you well.

    My dear loving parents,
I have something very important to tell you. I have signed up for the army. I decided to as I could go on a adventure and become a hero. I have a lot of doubts though as I could get hurt. My friends could
get hurt. I could die. My friends could die. I don’t really want to go to war as many people get hurt or die in wars. But it was for the country. Don’t worry I will quit when the war is over and I will be back at christmas. My friends are with me and going to give me a bit of comfort. We all want to have an adventure. When it is all over I will be looking forward to see you again.
    From your loving son Will.

      Excellent work Owen,
all correct for the English. Very persuasive, I like the way you have referred to “my friends” and show how you feel responsible for them.

It has been really cold today.

      Hello George

For the grammar, in this text, crowd is a noun. It can be a verb but not in this sentence.
Stop is a verb. Again, it can be a noun but not in this sentence.
      Band and great are correct.
Wild is an adjective here and report is a verb.

You have some good ideas for your letter and capture both sides of how Will is feeling. Don’t forget that it’s “excited” and not “exited”. Also, use a capital “I” when it’s used as a pronoun.

      Hello Mia

For Q1, the boys aren’t rude – they just aren’t used to crowds!

Billy goes up the stairs first and Will goes last.

For Q7, do you think that the boys parents knew what they had gone to do?

Good work on the reading. Don’t forget that it’s “they were” and not “they was”.

Dear my loving mum and dad

I have something of huge importance to tell you. I have decided to join the army, this decision hasn’t been easy but I hope I will have your full support. I have made this decision because I want to support the country. I think it will be a great learning opportunity for me and I will be able to see the world. I won’t be alone because I will be with my best friends and we will hopefully be back before christmas. I have mixed feelings about leaving, I am scared but am more excited. I will miss you both.

    From your loving son Will.

This is great Mia. You capture Will’s feelings well.

I’m wondering if you can find different ways to begin sentences as they all begin with “I”.
