English/ Reading:

Use the photo to try and answer/ infer from these questions:

  1. How can you tell that this photo is from the past?
  2. How can you tell that Tranio has sneaked into the harbour?
  3. What makes you think that the people are working?
  4. Why do you think that the men were waving to each other?
  5. Why do you think the person in the blue outfit is carrying a pot on his head?

Writing:

Imagine you are Tranio looking out the window and use you carpet of words  (nouns, adjectives and fronted adverbials) to build sentence from yesterday to write a description of the city. You can use this sentence to start your description but we would also like to see:

SENTENCE OPENER: My mind wondered out the window and onto the street.

  • first person  –  I, me, my
  • Magic three rule  – three adjectives to describe the noun, for example: I spotted the busy, lively, bustling shopkeepers selling their produce.
  • Try and use different fronted adverbials for when.
  • writing in past tense
  • try and describe using similes – for example: The building was as tall as a mountain. A simile is when you describe something as something else.

Please try really hard to write in as much detail as possible and as much as you can – we know how much you can write so show us!

Here is the picture again to help you.

PSHE:

We know that you embrace and show every day our language of learning values and we have certainly seen this in school and through home learning. This week is the value of ‘kindness.’ We thinking about acts of kindness and how we can show being kind at home and in school. It is often the little things that mean the most to people, when you say/ do/ show kindness. If you ‘hold the door open for others’ or ‘encourage your friends’ these can show how kind you can be.

Here is a short video you can watch to show how we can be kind to each other.

We would like to create a paper chain of kindness – we would like you to create 10 tokens/ parts of your paper chain to show how you can do something kind to others. Here are two examples below and it would be great to display in your house to show how you could act kindly to someone at home or in school.

With the reading have a look at the picture closely and answer the questions, for example with the first question have a look at what the people are wearing, the ships and the buildings. With the writing- imagine that you are Tranio, the ginger man staring out of the window. Using your carpet of words and sentence from yesterday write a description of the city, of what he can see, but write it as if you are him so use openers such as; ‘I spotted the busy, lively, bustling shopkeepers selling their produce’. Make sure you make your sentences interesting using adjectives, fronted adverbials, nouns and it has to be written in the past tense, so as if it has already happened.
      I hope this helps,

How can you tell that this photo is from the past?
There’s boats in the sea and three using pots made out of clay
How can you tell that Tranio has sneaked into the harbour?
He is hiding in the objects
What makes you think that the people are working?
There holding things and going to the ship to put them or collect them
Why do you think that the men were waving to each other?
They can probably drop the objects off or there’s to much objects on board so they need another ship

Why do you think the person in the blue outfit is carrying a pot on his head?
So it doesn’t fall and there’s probably water in there for there Journey ahead

I know that the story is from the past because ofIt’s a I V N I on a piece of the wall and I know that that means it happened a long time ago. I know Tranio has sneaked into the harbour because he was looking for a place to hide. The thing that makes me think that people are working is that the carrying lots of stuff and different then just doing their jobs which shows they are working. I think the men were waving to each other to show that they needed to put the goods on the boat like they were doing it for a sign. I think the man who is carrying a put on a tenant carrying it on his head because it’s really heavy and he can’t do it with his hands so he’s going to have to use his head because it is easier.
