Year 1 (Home Learning) – Tuesday 23rd February

Good Morning Year 1,

Well done for making a fantastic start to the week yesterday and it was wonderful to
be reunited with so many of your smiley faces on Zoom!

Just a reminder that World Book Day is due to take place virtually next Thursday 4th March.
We set you a half-term activity to create your own costume – Miss Kinsella instructed that your costume must be made of recycled materials, e.g. cardboard boxes, pastic bottles, paper, ect.
Get creative and have lots of fun!

A reminder of the expectations of Home Learning:

  • There will be a daily Zoom registration @ 10:40am, during which a member of the Year 1 Team will greet the children and discuss the activities for the day ahead.
  • The expectation is for children to be on the daily Zoom registration and engaging with the set activities on our Year 1 Blog – Phonics, Literacy, Maths and an additional Curriculum subject.
  • Please email children’s work across to their class teacher at:

Here are your activities for the day:

Here is a clip of Mrs Tucker showing you how we teach Phonics at Lings:

There are two Phonics (1 & 2) plans below. Please email us to find out which plan is most suitable for your child.

  • I can write a postcard in the correct format.
  • I can write about what I saw in Wales.

Today we are going on a virtual tour of Wales and Mrs Roberts is even more excited than yesterday because she is Welsh herself – which means that you come from Wales.

Let’s go on a virtual trip around Wales … you might even want to dress up as a tourist (sunglasses, rucksack, camera, ect.)!

What can you see? Adults – please discuss important landmarks and features with the children.

Now let’s read some information from a Non-Fiction text to find out some interesting facts about Wales:

Main Writing Activity:

What is a postcard? Watch this video to explore the features of a postcard

Now we would like you to write a postcard from Wales to tell your teacher what you have seen on your ‘day out’ in Wales!

We are really looking forward to hearing about your exciting trip!

White Rose: Subtraction – crossing 10 (by counting back)

You may need a number line from 0 to 20.

Today we went on a virtual tour of Wales. One of the Welsh symbols is a daffodil.

We would like you to create your own daffodil.
You can be as creative as you want and use whatever materials you have handy at home to do this!

Here is an idea to help get you started:

Keep shining,
