Year 5- Monday 1st February

It’s week 5.  And a new month.   Remember when we write February there are some silent letters.   I always say it how I spell it Feb- ru- ar- y.

The class email address is yearfive@lingsprimary.org.uk

Morning task

Maths- 60 minutes

We are continuing with our work on line graphs.

Watch the video lesson.

https://vimeo.com/466529487

  • Remember to pause the video when the teacher says and to try the questions to check your understanding.
  •  You can watch each section as many times as you need.

Now try the worksheet.

https://resources.whiterosemaths.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Y5-Autumn-Block-3-WO3-Use-line-graphs-to-solve-problems-2019.pdf

If you are still feeling confident AND you have done the worksheet, then you can try the challenge task.

English- 90 minutes

We have a blog at 11.00 which will be reading through the text.  Task 1

If you miss the zoom,  I’ve recorded the text and a bit of an explanation.

demetrius and helena audio

Task 2

Summarise the text-  in your own words explain what is going on.

Task 3

Who does Oberon want to “torment” for their injury?

How does Demetrius feel about Helena?  Give 3 pieces of evidence for you answer.

What does Helena mean by her last 2 lines?

History- 75 minutes

Now we know all about how the war started, the countries involved,  what life was like in the trenches-  trench foot,  rats, lice, shell shock (now called PTSD) and the chance of injury or death.

Let’s find out about the end of the war.

week 5 history

There are some suggestions for how you can record your work on the final slide.  but powerpoints or other creative opportunities are also fine.

Spelling- 30 minutes

Can you spot the patterns in these words?  We have 2 spelling patterns.  Sort the words into 2 groups based on the spelling patterns.

existence hindrance conscience convenience excellence frequence governance  interfence interruptance nuisance relevance

Hi Kiran, ok for question 2c the record was for the whole of October, how much rain in total have we already have in the first 8 days? SO has the record been broken?
For question 3 it doesn’t look like you’re using the graph, as there are no decimal points.
To find 3a, slide along the horizontal axis till you reach 50 miles, then slide up to the red line, then slide across to the vertical axis. That should convert miles into km.
Can you check the answers for question 3.

And on 3a, if you slide along the horizontal axis to 50 miles, and then go up to the red line, then slide along to the vertical axis it should be on an exact number. Double check what this is.

Have a look at 2c for me. The question is about the whole of October, in the first 8 days how much did it rain in total? So has a new record been set?
On question 3e, you’re correct Ron can’t work it out from the graph as it isn’t high enough. But using your mathematical knowledge of x 10, can you work it out?

Oberon does want to torment Titania, because she won’t let him have the changeling.
Demetrius just wants her to stop following him. He doesn’t want to hurt her, he explains that he just doesn’t love her.

-Oberon wants to get revenge on Titania because of the changeling boy.
-Oberon tells Puck to get the magical flower and the juice from it on the eyelids will make her fall in love with another human or animal.
-Helena tells Demetrius how much she loves him and that she cannot stay away from him, like a magnet.
-Demetrius refuses to love her back and he is angry about it.
-Helena says she would die for Demetrius.

    Titania.
Demetrius does not love Helena because he says: ‘I love thee not’ ‘follow me not’ and ‘do I speak you fair?’
She would rather die than stay away from Demetrius.

Speech about the end of the war:
I declare the war to end right now! Too many people have died during this war, we need peace and harmony in the world. The trenches are too cold, too dark and muddy for anyone to live in. The diseases from rats and the living conditions are awful. Our soldiers need help, company and medicine from us all. Please pay respect to all our men.

We made this treaty, if you sign it this war will end we are tired and we guess you are too but it will have too stop at the 11/11/1918. There will be no more battles but the war will go on until the… but you know what time to do it. If you sign it this war will end forever. We hope there will be no more wars. Peace, endurance and bravery are important in this war right.
