English – Spelling – Friday 29th January

Today’s session is about adding prefixes.

A prefix is added to the beginning of a root word. When you add a prefix to a root word, you change the word’s meaning.

Here are some common prefixes and their meanings:

re = again, back

dis = not

un = not, opposite

mis = wrong

pre = before

under = below

Task 1 – Write the correct prefix next to each root word.

a.                  play             to play again

b.                 age              below age

c.                  print           to print incorrecly

d.                  able           not able

e.                  heat          to heat before

f.                  wind          to wind back or again

g.                  honest     not honest

h.                  treat         to treat wrongly

i.                  tied           not tied

j.                  water        below the water

k.                  happy      not happy

l.                  view         to view before

Task 2 – Find other words that contain any of these prefixes. Write the word and it’s meaning.

You should spend around 30 minutes on this.

      Well done Max.

      These are one word. There is no space between the prefix and the root word.

      Can you think of any more words that use these prefixes?

      Well done Imaobong.

      The only one to look at is united. The prefix added is “re” to make it reunited.
