Year 2 Home Learning – Friday 29th January 2021

Good morning Year 2!

Remember we have a zoom register at 10.20am every morning. It is important you log in to this on time so that we can say good morning to each other, complete an online activity as well as explaining our work for the day. A link for this has been sent to the parent email you have registered at school. Please email us at the Year 2 email address if you need a new link sending to you.
Please bring paper and a pencil/pen to the zoom register.

Please remember to comment on the blog when you have completed your tasks, and to email us your completed work so we can see what you have been doing and support you if needed. Work can be emailed to yeartwo@lingsprimary.org.uk.
Have a great day and we will be waiting for you when we can all go back to school together!

Miss Duncan, Miss Battams and the rest of the Year 2 team.

Here are today’s learning tasks.

English Reading

Below is a video explaining the task. Remember you can pause the video at any time.

Here is the picture we are focusing on for our reading task.

With your information you have about the characters, answer the following question.

-How is Helena feeling? How do you know from the picture?

-How is Demetrius feeling? How do you know from the picture?

-What do you think will happen next?

English Writing

Using your plan from yesterday, write your letter to Demetrius responding to what he has said and what you are going to do.

Remember to include capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

Can you include any expanded nouns in your writing?

Below is the template we used to plan our letter. You can refer back to it as it shows you the structure you need to follow in your letter.

Phonics

Below is Miss Duncan’s Phonics lesson for Monday. You can pause the video at anytime so that you have enough time to read, write and check your work.

Please let us know how you get on with this style of Phonics lesson.

Maths

Here is the video we have looked at this week.

Watch the video to recap our prior learning.

Below are problems for you to solve. These problems are a combination of all the learning we have done on time this week.

There’s also different representations on time such as a clock or bar model.

Handwriting
Warm up: Wiggle your fingers up high, down low, to the side and in front of you.
Stretch your fingers out like fireworks twelve times.
Can you write the following KS1 words at least four times? Remember to leave a finger space.
* child
* children
* after
* fast
Tick your neatest formation and be proud of your handwriting.

Art

Below are some pictures from our guided tour of Athens.

Using the pictures to help draw a landscape of the city.

Try to use the patterns from your pencil dictionary to shade and decorate your buildings.

PSHE / Online Safety

Watch this short song about online safety and have a think about how you can stay safe online.

Story Time

Here is Miss Mann reading ‘When will it Snow?’ Enjoy!

Family Fun

The first week’s family task is pick your favourite toy and to explain why it is their favourite.

It does not have to be a toy you have now but can be one you remember  from when they were younger.

Miss Duncan’s was the ‘Baby Expressions Doll’.

You had to put a lot of batteries into its back and the doll’s face use to move. Some of the faces it would make were quite scary. I remember it being heavy and had a strange plastic smell.

What is/was your favourite toy and why? What about the grown ups in your family.? Talk with them all about the toys you all like and can remember.

We have an online log in which will link to some ebooks that follow our reading scheme in school. These books will allow your child to practice their phonics skills. It is a free resource. You may need to register for a free parent account to access the books.

Follow this link to log in: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/?selLanguage=en&mode=hub
Go to Oxford Owl for Home and click on enter site.
This will give you the option to choose a book recommended for your age or you can choose a book from the colour you read at school.
These are all free to read and it would be great if you could read one to someone at home.

Remember to leave us a comment on the blog to share your learning or you can email it to me at yeartwo@lingsprimary.org.uk.
We look forward to seeing your work!

    Demetrius is not in love with Helena so she is sad. She is looking at him in a sad way. He looks like he does not care. He is not looking at her.
    I think he will love her?

      Well done Monica!
      Good job using the conjunction ‘so’ in your writing.
