Year 1 (Home Learning) – Thursday 28th January

Good Morning Year 1 Children, Parents and Carers,

As the snow has melted away, we wanted to share some pictures of our Year 1 children making lots of wonderful memories in the magical weather …

Fancy Dress Friday!

We would like to invite the children to wear fancy dress for our Friday Zoom!

This will be something for us all to look forward to and a little treat for the children who have been working so hard throughout the past few weeks.

We can’t wait to see what you come as!

I wonder what Miss Simons will be dressing up as?

Thank You Parents & Carers

If you haven’t seen it already, here is a BIG thank you from all the staff here at Lings for your continued cooperation and support throughout these challenging times:

Here is the CBBC’s Lockdown Learning schedule for this week:

  • The 20 minute Bitesize Daily age 5-7 sessions @ 9:00am will be an additional way of supporting the children’s learning at home – particularly as we continue our Science focus this week!
  • We have highlighted two of the Celebrity Supply Teacher sessions on Monday and Tuesday, as Darcey Bussell’s Dance lesson should be great fun and Katie Piper’s lesson will be on wellbeing.
  • On Thursday @ 10:15am, Horrible Histories are airing an episode on the Crimean War – which we mentioned briefly whilst we were learning about Mary Seacole and Edith Cavell. This will be a great way to revisit and review the children’s learning.

A reminder of the expectations of Home Learning:

  • There will be a daily Zoom registration @ 10:40am, during which a member of the Year 1 Team will greet the children and discuss the activities for the day ahead.
  • The expectation is for children to be on the daily Zoom registration and engaging with the set activities on our Year 1 Blog – Phonics, Literacy, Maths and a Curriculum subject.
  • Please email children’s work across to their class teacher at: yearone@lingsprimary.org.uk

Here are your activities for the day:

Literacy

  • I can invent a magic potion.
  • I can label and draw the ingredients in my potion.
  • I can write some magic words.

Can you remember who else lived in the magical Forest?

Yes that’s right, it was the King and Queen of the fairies … Queen Titania and King Oberon.

Oberon was not happy with Queen Titania and he called Puck to help him play a trick on her.

He wanted Puck to make a magic potion to drip into her eyes as she slept – hoping that when she awoke, she would fall in love with the first thing she saw.

What do you think Puck should put into the magic potion? We would like you to help him.

Write a draw the things you would put into the potion.

Remember, there is no right or wrong answer and you can put in anything you like into your magic potion – from worms and lizards to sweet smelling flowers!

The challenge today is to also write the magic words you might say when you use your potion?

Maths

Starter:

Challenge: Can you group them into ‘tens’ and ‘ones’?

White Rose: Understanding tens and ones (part 2)

You may need 20 counters2 Ten Frames – see template below – and 10 bundles of ten (this could be bundles of straws/pencils/ect)

We understand that counters are not a common object found in most homes, so think about something else that the children could use to represent a counter, e.g. pasta, lego, coins, ect.

Work through the video to complete the lesson – using the worksheet provided:

Science

Below are a series of pictures of something.

Using your knowledge of materials … Which material is it? What object do you think it is?

Each time you press the arrow to go forward, the image will zoom out – make a prediction of what you think the object is each time.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

How did you get on? Was your prediction correct?

Now it’s your turn …

Work with an adult to create your own Zoom Out – Materials Quiz!

If you have access to a camera on a smartphone or tablet, take a close up picture of a range of different objects.

Adults – whilst the children are doing this, you can discuss the materials that these objects are made of and whether they are natural or man-made.

You can present your quiz however you would like. Once you are finished, you can send your quiz to Miss Simons for her to have a go!

If you don’t have access to a camera, an adult could cut out small pieces of different materials (from recycling) and ask the children to guess what they think the material/object is.

Keep Shining,

Miss Simons, Mrs Roberts and Mrs Billingham : )
