Morning Year 6.
We hope to see you all on Zoom at 9:05am
Warm up challenge (15 minutes)
Reading (20 minutes)
Have a look over the scene from yesterday again:
FAIRY
Either I mistake your shape and making quite,
Or else you are that shrewd and knavish sprite
Call’d Robin Goodfellow: are not you he
That frights the maidens of the villagery;
Skim milk, and sometimes labour in the quern
And bootless make the breathless housewife churn;
And sometime make the drink to bear no barm;
Mislead night-wanderers, laughing at their harm?
Those that Hobgoblin call you and sweet Puck,
You do their work, and they shall have good luck:
Are not you he?
PUCK
Thou speak’st aright;
I am that merry wanderer of the night.
I jest to Oberon and make him smile
When I a fat and bean-fed horse beguile,
Neighing in likeness of a filly foal:
And sometime lurk I in a gossip’s bowl,
In very likeness of a roasted crab,
And when she drinks, against her lips I bob
And on her wither’d dewlap pour the ale.
The wisest aunt, telling the saddest tale,
Sometime for three-foot stool mistaketh me;
Then slip I from her bum, down topples she,
And ‘tailor’ cries, and falls into a cough;
And then the whole quire hold their hips and laugh,
And waxen in their mirth and neeze and swear
A merrier hour was never wasted there.
Now answer these questions about the text:
- Who is the conversation between?
- Where does the conversation take place?
- Find and copy one of the things that the fairy says that Puck does.
- Does Puck tell the fairy that they are wrong or right? How do you know?
- How does Puck make Oberon smile?
- What impression do you get of Puck? Why?
Writing (1 hour 10 minutes)
Today, we are going to be focusing on Puck and the sort of character that he is.
What do you know about Puck already?
What impression do you get of Puck?
Have a read through Puck’s character information:
NPAT RSC Character Information – Puck Oberon’s servant
Have a look at the information about Puck on the following link:
https://www.rsc.org.uk/shakespeare-learning-zone/a-midsummer-nights-dream/character/relationships
Thinking about the images that you have seen of Puck and the information that you have read about him, what do you think of him now?
Write 3 adjectives that you would use to describe Puck.
Have a look at the information about Puck in this PowerPoint and answer the questions as you go:
Now you have learnt lots of information about Puck, choose one of today’s writing options.
Option 1:
Write a detailed character description of Puck.
Things to include:
- Lots of descriptive language especially about Puck’s personality
- Relative clauses
- Expanded noun sentences
- Adjective list sentences
Make sure your reader gets a good sense of the mischief that Puck gets up to!
Option 2:
Imagine that you are Puck and you have just put the love potion on Lysander and Titania’s eyes. Write a diary entry from Puck’s point of view.
Things to include:
- Make it sound like Puck (think about how he might talk)
- Lot’s of feelings (especially linked with fun)
- Details about what has happened/what might happen.
Make sure you reader feels like Puck is talking to them!
Maths (1 hour 10 minutes)
Starter challenge:
Here are today’s Rapid Reasoning questions:
Main activity
Today we are going to look at another way that we can organise data.
Venn Diagrams.
Have you heard of one of these before?
Do you know what it looks like?
Here is a Venn Diagram:
As you can see, Venn diagrams have overlapping circles that are used to organise the data.
You can also see that in this Venn diagram, there are two rules or two categories:
ODD NUMBERS i.e. 1, 3, 5
NUMBERS GREATER THAN 10 i.e. 12, 14, 20
What do you notice about the numbers in the middle circle?
They fit both of the rules!
19 is both an odd number and greater than 10 so we have to put it in the middle (notice that it only goes in the middle, we don’t need to write it in to all 3 circles).
What do you notice about the numbers left outside all of the circles?
They don’t fit any of the rules!
2 is not odd and it is not greater than 10. However, we can’t just ignore this data. So we put any data, that doesn’t fit the rules, outside all of the circles.
Have a look at this next example:
Again, you can see overlapping circles with 2 rules:
- Numbers in the 3 x table i.e. 27, 9, 54
- Numbers in the 10 x table i.e. 100, 260, 10
You can see numbers in the middle circle which fit both rules i.e. 150
You can see numbers outside of the circle that don’t fit any rules i.e. 5
Now it is your turn. Can you put the numbers in the correct place on this Venn diagram?
Sometimes Venn diagrams can have more than 2 rules i.e.
What do you notice about this Venn diagram?
Firstly, you can see than Venn diagrams don’t just deal with numbers, any data can be sorted in a Venn diagram.
Here you can see 3 criteria or rules:
BLONDE HAIR
OLDER THAN 8
BOY
You will also notice that there are now 4 middle circles because we now need to show data that represents 2 of the criteria or all 3 of the rules. Let’s look at the data in the middle circles.
Sue – has blonde hair and is older than 8 but isn’t a boy.
Ian – is older than 8 and is a boy but doesn’t have blonde hair.
Bill – has blonde hair and is a boy but isn’t older than 8.
Sam – has blonde hair, is older than 8 and is a boy.
Finally, Becky fits none of the rules.
Now you try with this larger Venn diagram:
Hint: Work through 1 person at a time.
Challenge:
Venn diagrams can also appear looking very different to what we have seen (mainly in the SATs test!). Here are some examples. See if you can work out what to do using your knowledge of Venn diagrams.

He could be a painter or a person selling items and foods .
Night of the living statue .
He probably was just leaving his job to go home .
probably got kidnapped by the statue I think .
Great Dan! I like the title!
Mischievous, that is how I would describe puck because he loves to pull pranks on other people like scare them or something like that . But he is not only mischeveouse he is also very loyal to the king Obaron he does this to make Obaron laugh and he enjoys that .
Also he is very kind because he doesn’t want to heart them he just wans to make other people laugh.
A lovely description Sadia. Could you add a relative clause?
1Who might be the man

2.The title could THE GHOST THAT HAUNTED or THE STATUE THAT MOVED.

Good. Would you tell anyone?
no
Punk is a mysterious fairy, always getting into trouble.
But he is also very loyal to his master Oberon.
People called punk, robin Goodfellow but he is not always good. But more mysterious he likes to pull pranks on people; to annoy them. But once Oberon is there he acts as good as gold
Punk has two sides. He is really amazing, loyal, good when Oberon is her. He always helps Oberon, when ever he needs something. He is like a friend to Oberon, but that is only one side.
A lovely description Gracie. Can you add a relative clause?
