Year 2 Home Learning – Thursday 21st January

Good Morning Year 2!

We hope you’re ready for today’s home learning.

We know it’s a little bit different learning from home, but we are here if you need any help. We know you can do this!

Remember we have a zoom register at 10.20am every morning. It is important you log in to this promptly so that we can say good morning to each other, give you instructions for today’s learning, complete our Phonics lesson as well as working through our Reading and Writing activities together.

A link for this has been sent to the parent email you have registered at school. Please email us at the Year 2 email address if you need a new link sending to you.

Please bring paper and a pencil/pen to the zoom register.

Please remember to comment on the blog when you have completed your tasks, and to email us your completed work so we can see what you have been doing and support you if needed. Work can be emailed via your pupil email address (details were issued last term) or via a parents email address to yeartwo@lingsprimary.org.uk.

Have a great day and we will be waiting for you when we can all go back to school together!

Miss Duncan, Miss Battams and the rest of the Year 2 team.

Miss Battams’ Brain Buster quiz of the week from this morning will appear here after the zoom if you would like another go. Leave your answers in the comments section at the bottom of this blog post. I wonder who can get the most right answers?

English – Reading

read the report about the magical flower. What do they notice about the text? Are there any unusual words that you do not know the meaning of? What do they know about the magical flower?

Can you write a prediction about what you think the magical flower will do? You should try to keep your sentences exciting to keep your reader wanting to learn more. Remember to use punctuation, finger spaces and to keep your handwriting neat.

Thursday 20.1.21 reading text Click here for the text to read. You can watch the video below to hear the text read out to you.

English – Writing

You are going to be tasked with writing your own news report about what has happened in the forest. Every good piece of writing starts with a plan to help you remember what information you need to include. Can you complete the planning template to help you plan your own report. You only need to use bullet points of the main information as you will be writing the final report tomorrow. It does not need to include lots of information or be written in full sentences. You can use the examples provided to help you, but this should be your own work and the template ideas should not all be copied.

Here is the video with all of the English tasks explained and the texts read out for you.

Phonics

Sort these words into their correct spelling of the sound that you find in the word.

Can you put them in a sentence e.g. I cried as the flight took off into the night.

Maths

Watch the video and solve the following problems.

Handwriting

Warm up: Wiggle your fingers up high, down low, to the side and in front of you.
Stretch your fingers out like fireworks twelve times.
Can you write the following KS1 words at least four times? Remember to leave a finger space.

* three
* five
* seven
* nine

Tick your neatest formation and be proud of your handwriting.

Art

Look at the flower from our English work.

Can you draw your own magic flower and use the patterns from your pencil dictionary to decorate it.

Reading/Story

Miss Duncan has recorded a story for story time. It is called ‘Escape of the Giant Chicken’. We hope you enjoy it.

We have an online log in which will link to some ebooks that follow our reading scheme in school. These books will allow your child to practice their phonics skills. It is a free resource.

Follow this link to log in: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/?selLanguage=en&mode=hub

Go to Oxford Owl for Home and click on enter site.
This will give you the option to choose a book recommended for your age or you can choose a book from the colour you read at school.
These are all free to read and it would be great if you could read one to someone at home.

Remember to leave us a comment on the blog to share your learning or you can email it to me at yeartwo@lingsprimary.org.uk.

We look forward to seeing your work!

    Magical Flower superpower:
    I think the super power of magical flower could be a stinky smell leaning to that person for days, so everybody who touch it will have to have ultra long bath and scrub.
