RE – Thursday 14th January

In today’s lesson, you will learn about what Psalms are and how Christians use them to express their feelings.

Psalms are poems and songs from the Old Testament of the Bible.

When people worship, they have different feelings. People who follow a faith might be able to express their feelings to their God/Gods. Psalms are from the Bible which is the special book for Christians and are written to God. People from different faiths would have different ways of expressing their thanks.

The video below explains a well known Psalm called “The Lord is my Shepherd”.

Here are some more examples of Psalms. Read them and try to work out what they mean:

Writing Task – we would like you to explore your thoughts and feelings through a Psalm. Have a go at writing a Psalm which expresses your feelings, such as one which says thanks or shows how grateful you are. Please note that your Psalm does not have to mention God.

You should spend 45 minutes on this.

      This is great Alex.

I think you’ve picked out some appropriate things to say thank you for.

See what other people write and compare their ideas. Does everyone say thank you for the same things?

    He bleseth me with food,
    And with all I have.
    He gave me a dwelling,
And he helps me to do right.
He sets an example to all on Earth.

      Well done Talal

Make sure that you read some of the Psalms written by other people in Year 5. Compare your ideas to theirs and feel free to make a positive comment about the work of others.
