Thursday 7th January – MATHS

Today’s focus is multiplying 3-digit by 1-digit numbers. This is something that you may have begun to work on in Year 4 and this lesson will allow you to be fully secure with this step before we move on further with our learning about multiplication and division.

Below are the teaching slides and explanations for this lesson that we would have looked at in school. You can watch them at your own pace and pause or rewind them whenever you wish. This is really useful if you do not understand something first time!

After each set of explanations the video will ask you to pause it and work on particular questions from the worksheet. You can type in your work into the reply box below. If you would prefer to work on paper and take a picture of it, then that is fine. Just send it to us via email.

If you finish the worksheet, there are some further challenges below which are based around this step for you to work on. Again, either put your work in a comment or send in via email.

Please feel free to also post any questions if there is something that you do not understand. We will reply to you as soon as we can so keep checking the blog to see our response to your questions.

Good luck!

This should take you one hour.

The get ready questions have been answered well Rihanna.

I can’t see all of the other questions on the sheet but will check what you have put:

      103×4 is 412 (but Question 1 shows 124×3).
      153×7 is 1071
      246×4 is 984
Check that 213×3 is 634. (Tip – Think about what 3×3 is and this will give you the ones digit.)

      Hello Saheera

You have got a lot correct so you are at least nearly there with this step.

Check 2 e and f. Also look at 4 c, d, e and f. Don’t panic though – most of these are times tables mistakes (For example, what is 6×8?).

For question 1, think about which number is shown 3 times using the place value counters.

For question 6, read what Ron and Teddy say in the speech bubbles – is what they say correct?

      Hello Talal

You clearly have a good understanding of this step but there are a few to check here.

      They are:

      2e – 4 x 209 (you did 4 x 206!)
      4d – 163 x 5
      Number 8

Check carefully and try not to rush!

      Look after yourselves.
