Prime Numbers

Today, we are learning about a very special set of numbers – prime numbers. These are a very useful set of numbers to know and today we are looking to learn what they are and which numbers can be labelled as a prime number.

The slides below are what we will be looking at in school. You might find it useful to have some counters with you for the first few slides where you are working out the factors of different numbers. These can be used to make rectangular arrays which help show the factors of different numbers.

The activity at the end of the slides then asks you to work out the prime numbers up to 100 by colouring in multiples of numbers between 2 and 7 on a 1-100 square. If you can do this, then you are also able to investigate numbers between 101 and 200, and see which of those are prime. There is a link to two number grids after the slides which you can use.

See how you get on.
