Wednesday 17th June – Year 5

Good morning Year 5 – how are we all today?

Here are your tasks for today:

Spellings

Can you remember our spellings patterns for this week that we started looking at on Monday?

Here are two short tests to do after reading some further information. Let me know how well you spell the words.

https://howtospell.co.uk/tionwords

https://www.spellzone.com/unit28/page3.cfm

Writing

I would like you to read the following story/poem by a famous poet called Michael Rosen. It’s quite long but I think that you will enjoy it. Try reading it a few times – this poem is always good to read aloud. Imagine that you are performing it to the class (you can always add in actions or changes to your voice as this brings the poem alive). I’m sure that an adult would love to hear you reading this out loud!

Chocolate Cake words

The following link is Michael himself performing it to a group of children – the words are a bit different but don’t worry too much.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zp9b4wx

I’d like you to create your version of the poem – you can follow the general idea of the poem or change it completely. Maybe you’d like it to be about another food item and not necessarily chocolate cake. If you have a particular favourite thing that you’d like to write about, that’s fine. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Reading

I have set us up a class login at the Oxford Owl website where you can access some books to either read on the screen or vis audio books. The website is:

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/

Go to the ‘My Class Login’ at the top. Our class name is ‘lings primary’ (all lower case) and the password is ‘YearFive’ (no gaps).

You can then choose a book that you would like to read. Let me know what you are reading and if you are enjoying listening as well as reading.

Maths

We are going to start looking at symmetry as we haven’t looked at this yet in Year 5 and I’m not sure what you can remember from Year 4. Look at the following link as an introduction to symmetry:

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-identify-lines-of-symmetry-in-2-d-shapes

Don’t worry that this is a Year 4 lesson as it’s a Year 4 objective. Blog me to let me know that you have watched it along with at least two sentences telling me what you have learnt.

Look at the following sheet – can you work out where the reflections should be?

reflective symmetry 1

Here are the answers for you to check:

reflective symmetry 1 answers

Spanish

The following lesson looks at how to say the date in Spanish.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/how-to-say-the-date-in-spanish-96b550

I hope that you can say the date now!

Take care,

Mrs Millard and Mrs Munro XX

      Hi Jessica,

It does need to be exactly as I typed it:
Log in – lings primary (all lower case and 2 words)
Password – YearFive (no gaps – check where capitals are used).

I’ve just checked it and I logged on successfully. Hopefully it will work next time.

    Sweet strawberry
It’s fun to go strawberry picking
They are juicy red and ripe
    I always eat too many
    Strawberries are my life

I like to buy a punnet
    I eat them to myself
    Luckily it’s a fruit
It’s good for my health .

One day I was sat at the dinner table and my mum had just brought out of the cupboard as strawberry meringue twis.
we all had one marng but there was one left mother insisted I take it to school tomorrow and eat it on the playground.
so I went to bed later in the night I woke up I couldn’t get to sleep so I went to go downstairs but then I stepped on the loose floorboard creek I heard a yarn.
so I peeked into the room they were still asleep so I creep downstairs and there I saw it.
I licked my finger and eat crumbs but I could hardly taste it so I had a small slice and it tastes delicious.
I couldn’t hold back I ate every last bit then I realise oh no mum is going to be furious at me.
so I thought what if I washed up the plate she will never realise I ate it so I washed it up and went to bed.
    good morning mum shouted!
    I shouted good morning back.
    getting ready for school.
then she said what’s that on your face!
I said what do you mean.
she said did you eat the meringue!
    I said I don’t know.
she said what do you mean you don’t know !
then she said I am never allowed to eat meringue again!

    Good Morning Mrs Millard,

I did both spelling tests and I got 4 wrong.

My mum will email you the maths.

Symmetry is where its the same on each side, it’s a mirror image. If you put a mirror in the middle of a shape they will be the same on either side, but sometimes you can get irregular shapes that means if you put a mirror in the middle it wont be the same on either side. Also some shapes can have more than just one line of symmetry.

      Hi Lydia,

Well done for completing the spelling – you know now which ones you need to practise.
I got your Maths thanks – I replied to your e mail.

Well done for your explanation – can you tell me a shape that would have 4 lines of symmetry?

    i still do now
i loved it even more when i was little .

me times i have it for a treat
and if there it any left
my mum says i can take to school
    to eat for lunch.
the next day i would get the cookies
and eat it and give some to my friends .
The chocolate chips melting on my hands.

One day my mum made cookies
the were some left ove r so my mum said
i can take it to school.
    that night i got hungry
    and i remembered
that there was cookies left over
    so i crept down stairs
    trying not to make sound
    i got the cookies
    then ran to my room
scoffed the cookies then went to sleep.

the next morning my mum said
    take the cookies for lunch
    i was like oh no
    my mum said what’s wrong
then she saw that the cookies were gone
    she said
im not making any more cookies.
