Tuesday 2nd June – Year 5

Good morning Year 5 – I hope you and your families are all well and keeping safe.

Well done to our bloggers and e mailers from yesterday – Lydia, Dhanshri, Logan, Jessica, Evie, Dan, Sadia, Gracie, Zain and Tanisa.

Could you let me know your spelling scores from yesterday – thank you to Lydia, Evie and Zain for doing this already.

Thank you for your fact file Tanisa – the only one that completed it!

Well done also to Sadia  and Logan who responded to my replies yesterday – thank you.

Here are your tasks for today:

Spellings

Following on from yesterday, I’d like you to ask an adult to test you on the second column of the Year 3/4 words (28 words). Ask them to read the words to you and then write them down. Use the list below to check your spellings and then blog me with your score. Good luck!

Grammar

Today we are going to revise commas

Here is a powerpoint to revise what we have looked at this year:

Commas ppt

Now try this:

Copy these sentences out and make sure that you find the right places for capital letters, full stops and commas.

Maths

We began looking at percentages yesterday.

  1. What’s a half as a percentage?  A quarter? Three quarters?
  2. How could you calculate 10% of something? Remember that as a fraction, this would be 10/100
  3. Now try the following:

Science

Some vocabulary that will be helpful today:

Yesterday, you watched the BBC Blue Planet video. Have a look at the following powerpoint which looks at the what we can do to save our sharks.

live lesson 2

I want you to create your own leaflet (you can use the powerpoint or anything else that you may have researched) informing people of the importance of sharks to the ecosystem and persuading them to take action to help protect sharks. There is a template towards the end of the powerpoint that you could use but feel free to create your own if you would rather. Pictures should be included to explain/persuade – for example, the diagram of the food chain would help to make your points clear. I would love to see as many as possible if you could send them via e mail.

Happy learning!

Mrs Millard and Mrs Munro XX

      Hi Sadia,

Well done – accurate punctuation. Just double check the following:

      3) ground or groaned?
6 and 7) Check if you have copied these correctly and therefore, where the commas are.

      Hi Mason,

Well done. Just have a quick look at the following:

      3) Check where the commas are.
      4) This sentence needs a comma.
      7) Check where the comma is. Gold and rubies are two different items.
      12) Is another comma needed in this sentence?

      Hi Sadia,

Well done! You did well here.
You don’t need the % sign after each answer – just the amount.

Just double check 75% of £2.40 and 10% of £4.50 – the numbers in your answers are correct but as this is money, how would it be written?

      Hi Dan,

I did want these sentences separately as it changes where commas are needed if you change the sentences. I wanted to check your accuracy with the sentences as they were.

Look at sentence 2 and 8.
Did you manage to look at the spellings yesterday and today?
