Year 2 Home Learning Tasks – Monday 1st June

Hi Year 2

We hope you had a wonderful half term and are ready to get your brains working.

Here are today’s learning activities.

English – Reading

Read the text and answer the following comprehension questions in full sentences.

  1. How much of all land is made up of desert?
  2. Name a desert.
  3. What does the word ‘adapted’ mean?
  4. Can you think of another adjective instead of ‘cold’?
  5. Would you visit a hot desert or cold desert and why?

 

English – Writing

Look at the picture.

Imagine that you are there.

Using your senses, what can you see, hear, and smell?

How does it make you feel?

Why do feel like that?

Why can you hear that?

 

Write your responses in full sentences and remember to use conjunctions in your writing.

 

Sounds – Write Phonics – Focus sound /r/ spelling <r>  

Review – read the following Year 2 common exception words: pretty, should, because, my, door, sugar

Read grass, ride, river, protect, properly,

Write  – Rose, robber, practice, reason

Dictation: The robber did not have a craft to ride on the river so he ran on the growing grass.

 

Maths – Basic Skills

Write down the three times table from 0x3 to 12×3.

 

Maths – Task

Answer the following quiz (reasoning) style questions

Spellings

Practice spelling the following words.

Use the same ‘copy, copy, copy, cover word and write’ process we use in class.

Geography

Listen to the song.

 

Name the seven continents and write a fact about each one.

You can do this as a piece of writing or as a poster.

    Hope you had a good break and enjoyed the sunshine.

    ENGLISH – READING

    1. How much of all land is made up of desert?
    a third of the land is desert.
    2. Name a desert ?
    the Sahara desert.
    3. What does adapted mean ?
    when you move to from a place to another place.
    4. What is another word for cold ?
    freezing.
    5. Would you visit a hot desert or cold desert and why?
    I would go to the cold desert as the sun is really hot in the summer time.

    ENGLISH – WRITING

    The picture is of a Sahara Desert. I can see lots of sands, trees and the rising of the sunrise. I can smell the sand between my feet as i am walking. It makes me feel great and grateful as god, has made such a beautiful thing.

    SOUND – WRITE PHONICS

    Rose, Robber, Reason, Practise

    MATHS – BASIC SKILLS

    3 Times table

    3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33 & 36.

    MATHS – TASK

    55 + 5 = 60

    45 + 25 = 60

    Sam has 55p. Ben has 10p less than Sam. Tick the coins that Ben has. 1 x 20p, 2 x 10p and 1 x 5p = 45p.

    A shop keeper has 20 fish and 5 fish bowls. He puts the same number of fish in each bowl. How many fish go in each bowl? 4 fish each.

    13 + 6 = 10 + 9

    I can here the wind howling. It makes me feel boiling because the sun looks hot. I can see a marsh.

    55+5=60
    25+35=60
    Ben has 45p
    20p, 10p, 10p 5p
    4 fish in each bowl
    13+6=10+9
