Year 2 Home Learning – Tuesday 19th January

Good Morning Year 2!

We hope you’re ready for today’s home learning.

We know it’s a little bit different learning from home, but we are here if you need any help. We know you can do this!

Remember we have a zoom register at 10.20am every morning. It is important you log in to this promptly so that we can say good morning to each other, give you instructions for today’s learning, complete our Phonics lesson as well as looking over our English activities together.

A link for this has been sent to the parent email you have registered at school. Please email us at the Year 2 email address if you need a new link sending to you.

Please bring paper and a pencil/pen to the zoom register.

Please remember to comment on the blog when you have completed your tasks, and to email us your completed work so we can see what you have been doing and support you if needed. Work can be emailed via your pupil email address (details were issued last term) or via a parents email address to yeartwo@lingsprimary.org.uk.

Have a great day and we will be waiting for you when we can all go back to school together!

Miss Duncan, Miss Battams and the rest of the Year 2 team.

Here are the maths questions from today’s zoom and the mystery pictures. You can pause the video on the slides you need. It would be great if you could leave a comment to tell us what you think the mystery picture is and why. We look forward to seeing your ideas and guesses!

English – Reading

Read the text about What is a Fairy? It might surprise you! You then need to write a sentence to tell us what you know about fairies and what you infer about fairies.

Below is the powerpoint with the texts if you would like to print them. You can click on the speakers to hear instructions and the texts read to you.

Tuesday reading 19.1.21

Here is a video which will also read the instructions and texts to you that you can pause when you need to.

English – Writing

Look at the picture of a fairy.

How would you describe this fairy? You need to write a character description for this fairy.

You should use a range of adjectives to help you describe it thinking about which ones are most exciting for your reader. We do not want you to use words like good, bad, nice or big. These words are boring and don’t tell us much.

You should describe it’s size, what it looks like, what it is wearing and what kind of person it is.

In Year 2, you should be aiming to write a minimum of half a side of A4 using lots of different sentences. You should not be writing short sentences or very long sentences that contain all the information joined together using the word and. Make your writing exciting for your raeder to keep them raeding your work.

Think about your spellings, punctuation and keep your handwriting neat.

Watch the following video.

Create a spider diagram, an example is below, that contains the facts you have learnt about Neil Armstrong.

Reading/Story

Miss Duncan has recorded a story for story time. It is called ‘Good Night, Sleep Tight’. We think its a great bedtime story and we hope you enjoy it.

We have an online log in which will link to some ebooks that follow our reading scheme in school. These books will allow your child to practice their phonics skills. It is a free resource.

Follow this link to log in: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/?selLanguage=en&mode=hub

Go to Oxford Owl for Home and click on enter site.
This will give you the option to choose a book recommended for your age or you can choose a book from the colour you read at school.
These are all free to read and it would be great if you could read one to someone at home.

Remember to leave us a comment on the blog to share your learning or you can email it to me at yeartwo@lingsprimary.org.uk.

We look forward to seeing your work!

I think it looks like a very tall green frog fairy.

Great work Amaya! I love the idea of a frog fairy! I wonder what kind of magic she would do.

I would describe the fairy with bad powers because she has black eyes and black is an evil colour🤭🙁
    -Math-
True because 18 is an even number.

Good work Nawal, I like how you have explained your reasoning about the black eyes.

Great job Sebastian. Did you notice a pattern that helped you as you completed these?

      Miss Battams 🙂
