Wednesday 29th April – Year 5

Good morning everyone. How are you today?

I am so impressed with those of you that are regularly blogging each day. Yesterday the following people blogged very well:

Aamirat, Lydia, Dan. Simar, Dhanshri, Jessica – jolly well done!!

I’m going to set you another challenge though. If you look at a previous days blog, you will see that I respond to each blog and often ask you extra questions to think about – just like we do in school!

I am going to be checking who responds to my questions and answers them – it’s just like you doing your purple pen work in school (see, I am trying to keep things as normal as possible!). There will be certificates for those who complete this challenge – well done!

Here are today’s tasks:

English

On Friday, you wrote the introduction to a non-chronological text about Ancient Greece. Write the next section, focussing on the Olympics.

Maths

Science

Play the Solids & Liquids – What am I? game.

Tell me what each item is and state if it’s a solid or liquid.

I am clear, strong and cold.  Light passes through me.

 2.

I have lots of little air bubbles in me that pop and fizz.  I am colourless but very sweet.

  3.

I am creamy white and I come from a cow.  You can drink me.

  4.

I am strong but bendy, if I am made of plastic.  Sometimes I am made of wood.  You can measure things with me.

  5.

I am hard.  The sea bashes me every day but it takes years to make me any smaller.

  6.

Sometimes I am smooth, sometimes I have lots of little bits in.  I am always orange.

  7.

I am quite hard and strong.  I used to be alive, but humans cut me down and burn me, or build with me.

  8.

I can be lots of different colours and have lots of different lovely smells.  I clean your hair with lots of bubbles.

  9.

I am strong but I can be crushed under your foot.  If you cut me I have a very sharp edge.

  10.

I am colourless and I don’t smell of anything.  Pour me out to make a lake.

Take care,

Mrs Millard, Mrs Leeming, Mrs Munro XXX

      Well done Jessica,

Just a spelling of homophones to look at:

      aloud – saying something aloud.
allowed – being allowed to do something.

    Hi Mrs Millard,
    This is my English work
The Olympics started in ancient Greece. They did the Olympics to empress the head God Zeus. Married women were not allowed to watch the Olympics or take part. The most popular event was the Chariot racing. Crashes were often made in the event.

      Thank you Jaynelle,

Your second sentence should be ‘impress’ rather than ’empress’.

Do the Olympics take place every year? Your later sentence contradicts this??

I printed the sheet of first.

    1,5,10,10,5,1
    1,6,15,20,15,6,1
    1,7,21,35,35,21,7,1
    1,8,28,56,70,56,28,8,1

The triangle is made like the two next to each other are the two that make the one under there.
I found a pattern that if you read front to back or back to front it is still the same

Yes that on the left and the right the number 1 has been repeated diagonally. On all the rows you have to repeat 2 numbers or more
