Tuesday 28th April – Year 1
Hi Year 1,
Here are today’s set of activities:
- Sounds-Write Phonics
- Reading/Writing
Read these next few pages from our new story:
What do you think the Elves were saying to each other in the workshop?
Some things to get you thinking …
- Look at how small they are compared to the shoemaking tools.
- I wonder whether they want to wake the shoemaker and his wife.
- Do you think they are being noisy or quiet?
- Are they happy or sad? Do they look like they are enjoying making the shoes?
Now pretend that you are one of the elves … can you write a speech bubble of what you think the elves might be saying to each other?
- Maths
Do you know the difference between a 2D Shape and a 3D Shape? Can you explain it?
Yesterday you drew some 2D Shapes. Today we would like you to go on a 3D shape hunt around your house and/or your garden! What 3D Shapes can you find? Do you know their names?
Can you find any of these 3D Shapes?
- Science
Garden investigation!
Get your shoes on and go outside with an adult. You could go into your garden or outside the front of your house. If you would rather stay inside, watch this video of Miss Simons exploring her garden:
Record your findings – you can draw, write or take pictures to show us what you discovered!
Enjoy your activities,
Miss Simons, Mrs Brookes and Mrs Roberts : )

I think the Elves were saying it’s a lot of work.
The one still climbing saying it’s hard to climb.
They were thinking the tools are bigger compared to them.
They want to surprise shoemaker and his wife.
I think they are quiet because Elves voices are not loud.
They look happy and they love making shoes.
Now pretend that you are one of the elves … can you write a speech bubble of what you think the elves might be saying to each other?
Speech Bubble
“Let’s finish this soon without waking shoemaker and his wife”
Maths
Do you know the difference between a 2D Shape and a 3D Shape? Can you explain it?
2D shapes are 2 dimensional with length and height as its dimension.
3D shapes are 3 dimensional which have also width or depth its third dimension.
Japgun Emailed the list of shapes he found in the house.
Science
