Tuesday 21st April – Year 1

Good Morning Year 1,

How did you get on with your learning yesterday? We hope that you had a great day!

We know how much you all love Bella the dog and you are probably missing seeing her tail wagging around the school. Her owner – Jo – has got in touch with us to tell us about Bella’s Reading Challenge. Bella would like you to have a go at her reading challenge and let us know how you get on – you can leave a comment or send us an email at: yearone@lingsprimary.org.uk

Here’s what you will be doing today:

  2. Reading/Writing
These are the characters that are in our story …

What do we know about them from looking at the pictures?
What do you think the old man does?
    Are they both happy?
Do you think they are rich or poor?
  3. Maths
Counting Warm Up (with optional worksheet): https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/znfk8xs
Shoe investigation – who has got the biggest shoe in your house?
It is important that you make this a fair measurement by lining your shoes up to start at the same point! Record your findings.

We would also like to direct you towards this useful website: https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/year-1/maths/#subjects
The government have created this new online platform to support parents and children whilst they are learning from home. The Maths content this week is particularly useful for us – as we will be exploring a range of different measurements throughout the week. It may be useful to reinforce understanding (alongside our activities) and/or challenge further.

  4. Science
What do plants need to grow?
A plant is a living organism that cover much of the land of planet Earth. You see them everywhere. They include; grass, trees, flowers, bushes, ferns, mosses, and more.
    Watch this video: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zpxnyrd/articles/zxxsyrd
Create a poster that explains the important things that a plant needs to grow!

Don’t forget that you can ask us any questions or send us pictures of your work at: yearone@lingsprimary.org.uk!

Happy Tuesday!

      Hi Japgun,

It is so lovely to hear from you. We hope that you had a great Easter break. Thank you for sending us your workings out. It’s great to see what you are up to. Do plants need anything else to grow? Watch the video link on yesterday’s blog and see whether you can find 3 more things that plants need to grow.

Keep up the good work and don’t forget to comment your ideas again, or send us your work at: yearone@lingsprimary.org.uk

          Not all plants grow in the soil – some can grow in water (like water lillies). Here are the 5 things that plants need to grow;
          1. Water
          2. Sunlight
          3. Time
          4. Average temperature
          5. Air
