Friday 3rd April Home Learning Tasks.

Good morning Year 2! Well done for reaching the end of your second week of learning at home. We’ve really enjoyed seeing your work again. Watch out for a special post a bit later to celebrate all your hard work!

MIss Battams and Miss Duncan 🙂

Here are today’s learning activities:

English
Reading – Read the famous poem below.

What do you notice about the poem? Why do you think the author chose to write this poem in the way he has? What do you think of the poem and why?

Writing – Write a story about the picture below. It should include a setting description, some information about your characters, expanded nouns, conjunctions (so, but, because, and, or, if , when) verbs (running) and adverbs (quickly). Remember to try to stick to past tense or present tense endings for your word endings and sentences. You should use as much interesting and exciting vocabulary as you can to hook your reader into your story.

Examples:
Expanded noun: describing an object, person, place – I entered the gloomy forest
Conjunctions: Joins two sentences together to make a longer sentence with more information – The wood was gloomy but I wasn’t frightened.
Verb: Action word that tells you what is happening – I was running through the forest.
Adverb: Tells you how the verb is being done – I crept silently

Sounds-Write Phonics

Maths Task:
Something a little different today! Can you complete this maths scavenger hunt? Remember to share what you found with us either in the comments or by email. We can’t wait to see what you find.

Handwriting
Warm up: Wiggle your fingers up high, down low, to the side and in front of you.
Stretch your fingers out like fireworks seven times.
Can you write the following Year 2 words joined up? Remember to leave a finger space.
* poor
* many
* old
* even
Tick your neatest formation and be proud of your handwriting.

RE:
Can you make an Easter card? This could be for somebody at home or maybe for a member of your family you can’t visit at the moment. There are lots of great ideas online or you may have a few of your own. Here’s a few simple ideas to get you started. You don’t have to have lots of craft resources at home for this task. Whilst you are doing this, try to think about why Easter is a time of celebration to Christians.

    Reading
    Elliot said Ning Nang Nong got repeated lots throughout the poem and that it was said more and more at the end. He noticed that it was rhyming. Elliot said he didn’t like the poem because it didn’t make sense and it was a nonsense poem! 😂

    He enjoyed the maths scavenger hunt and yesterdays times table grid! I will email some pictures over shortly.

      This is one of my favourite poems from when I was at school because it is nonsense! I’m glad you enjoyed the scavenger hunt, we have some more of those planned. Enjoy your Easter holidays. They’ll be more lessons and home learning tasks after Easter. Miss Battams 🙂

    What do you notice about the poem? It is funny and weird.
    Why do you think the author chose to write this poem in the way he has? Because he is a funny person and likes funny poems.
    What do you think of the poem and why? I think the poem is great.

    WRITING

    As i was entering the woods, i could see a big tree. I thought to myself i would go towards the tree to see what i could find. As i moved closer and closer to the tree, i could see a shape of a face on the tree, which i was amazed and spoke to me.

    When the tree spoke to me, i jumped and screamed and ran towards another tree. Then i slowly came out from behind the tree to see what i would see. The tree spoke to me again and asked are you lost little boy and i responded and said yes. The tree asked where was you going and i told him that i was going home. He had asked me which way is home, i showed him the way. He told me that i had to keep walking quite a few yards to get home. He also had told me that if i see a big house with big compass point on top of the roof, you are heading towards the right direction to your home.

    MATHS

    2 X 2 = 4, 4 X 2 = 8, 8 X 5 = 40, 3 X 10 = 30, 5 X 6 = 30, 12 X 2 = 24, 10 X 4 = 40, 2 X 8 = 16, 12 X 10 = 120, 5 X 5 = 25, 9 X 2 = 18, 3 X 5 =15, 6 X 10 = 60, 7 X 2 = 14, 8 X 10 = 80, 5 X 10 = 50, 1 X 2 = 2, 9 X 10 = 90.

    I would put all the tens together, put all two together and all the fives.
