Year 5- Friday 3rd April
Felices Pascuas! Happ.y Easter! (almost!)
This is the last school day before the Easter holidays, so we won’t be setting any more work on the blog for a couple of weeks. But you can
continue to work on your packs, and do independent research on any of our topics. Our topic next term for history is Ancient Greece and Science is all about forces.
English- What genre of writing is this? How do you know? What features of the genre can you see?
Maths- Remind yourself about equivalent fractions- there are lots of places that will help online but these 2 are quite good. Then try the questions below.

Don’t forget to email me if you have any problems. Have a great holiday! And look out for a fun post from Miss Simons later today!
from Mrs Leeming, Mrs Millard and Mrs Munro.
Good morning Mrs Leeming,
this is my English for the Friday 3rd April
The space times – Heading
Solar Eclipse at Eclipseville – sub heading
the text is a chronological report and a news paper.
I think that because you have to read it in order and it is telling you news.
I see a heading and a sub heading, i see inverted commas, I see commas, I see brackets. I see a picture of the moon in front of the sun, I see numbers.
quick questions,
1.superiority,
2.whole of something
3.to see the solar Eclipse
4. that they cared about the Eclipse
Great work Jess!
Good Morning Mrs Leeming,
I think this text is a chronological report I know this because of the layout and there is only one heading and the heading is a head line .It tell you how many words you have used.
It is a type of chronological text, but a specific one, which we have covered…
Hello Mrs Leeming again,
this is my maths for Friday 3RD April 2020,
Equivalent fraction is if you have a fraction for example 2 -8ths and i times the top number by 2 i have to times the bottom number by 2 then it would make 4-16ths then if i times the bottom number by 2
I need to times the top number by 2 so it would make 8-32ths and so on and so on.
1.1-2 – [4]=8ths
2.3-[5] = 6-10ths
3.3-4 12=[16]
4.[5]-10ths =1-2
5.7-[8]=14-16
6.2-3=[8]-12
7.[1]-6=4-24
8.1-8=2-[16]
9.2-10=[4]-5
10.2-[6]=1-3
11.2-10=[4]-5
12.2-[6]=4-5
13.-[4]-16=1-4
14.2-[5]=8-20
15.2-24=[1]-12
16.[6]-8=3-4
17.8-16=1-2
18.16-20=[4]-5
19.7-[10]-14-20
20.[10]-16=5-8
Hi Jess, can you check number 9 and number 12 for me.
In number 9 you need to divide rather than multiply, and 12 doesn’t seem quite right.
Good morning Mrs Leeming,
English
I think it’s a newspaper report because of the way it’s set out and it has a headline. It is reporting something that happened. It has quotes in that people have said. I can see the headline and the name of the paper.
1. The word best means better than anything else.
2. Totality means the sun would be in a complete shadow.
3. NASA said that it’s the best place to see totality.
4.They remember the town fondly so gave it a nickname.
I have printed the maths and done it on the sheet.
Great work Lydia. Best does mean better than anything else, but I think there might be another, more unusual word also.
Is the word unrivalled?
Yes!
Good morning Mrs Leeming,
English
I think that this text is newspaper report .I know this because of the way it’s set out.
1. unrevealed means better than everything.
2. The sun would be in complete shadow
3. Because the eclipse hadn’t happened for nearly 39 years.
4. Because they didn’t want to change the name of the town.
Great work Sadia, number 4 might also be because it’s a nickname, or because people are fond of it.
1 Amazed means better than anything else .
2 Totality means fullness.
3 They were keen to go there because people said that it was the best place to see the Eclipse.
4 Maybe because he wanted a bit of devotion in it .
Amazed is a good word, but it’s more like surprised… see if you can find another.
I think it was affection because it’s a nickname.
