Year 5 Tuesday 31st March

English

Samuel Pepys and Anne Frank are both famous for recording a diary, that covered important times in history- the great fire of London and World War 2 for Jews living in Nazi controlled countries.  We would like you to write a journal about life in England during Corona.

Revise factors, multiples and primes.

Write a definition of each and write a sentence containing the word.

What does ‘Highest Common Factor’ and Lowest Common Multiple’ mean? Again, put each word into a sentence showing that you know what it means.

RE

When we read the Merchant of Venice, we saw that Shylock wore “Jewish gaberdine”…do Jewish people actually  have different clothes? What rules do they have about how they dress?

    English,

Life in England with corona is hard but good for us . Its hard because you cant go out the house and you cant go school . But you are aloud to go to the shops but not that often, you can’t see your friends or family , only the people that work at essential are aloud to go to work and there children go to school. But you can go in your garden, you have to stay 2 meters apart, no hand shacking ,no holding hand and no hugging .

It is good to stay inside because if you don’t go outside then corona wont spread and you spend more time with the people in your house.

One night we clapped to the NHS because they save many peoples lives . Another day we put up a colourful rainbow on the window for the people that have to go to work to make them feel happy . Some of use is writing a letter to the people in a care home because there wont get many visitors .

Thank you Jessica for your journal entry – you made some very good points. I like how you have written about the positives as well as the negatives.

Check through your work for the apostrophes that you have missed.

Check spelling of their/there and they’re – can you spot the missing word in your first paragraph? Also, check your final sentence.

factors is dividing with no remainders so is you have 8 apples and 1 person they will have 8 apples but if there are 2 people they will both get 4 apples so the factors are 1, 2 , 4 and 8 and you cant have it in groups of 3’s because there will be 2 remainders so 3 is not a factor of 8 .

a prime number is a number that can divide by 1 and its self so for example if you have the number 3 that is a prime number because the number is times by 1 and its self . 5 is a prime number because you can put it into 1 group of 5 and 5 groups of 1 .there is also 7 ,13 ,17 and 997. 1 isn’t a prime number because it only has 1 number.

if you have a number for example 5 all the factors of 5 is 5 and 1 the highs factor is 5 and the lows is 1 or if you have 6 there is 3 , 2, 1 and 6 the highs factor is 6 and the lows is 1.

Well done. I like your explanation of why 1 isn’t a prime number – it only has I factor. What can you tell me about the number 2?

What does the word ‘multiple’ mean?

Check highest common factor and lowest common multiple – the word ‘common’ will help here.

Thank you – could you have researched a bit further? You should be writing approximately what we would expect in your topic book during a lesson.
Check that you have actually answered the questions.

Factors are 2 numbers you multiply together to get another number. For example:
    3X4=12
The 2 factors there are 3 and 4
Some people look at factors like 3 groups of 4 or 4 groups of 3 they are both completely equal!
