English – Friday 5th March

Your final task of the week is to write a character profile about Will.

Below is some of what we know about him so far. You should use this and anything else you know from the story to write about him.

There is also an extra challenge! You should look to use at least 5 different ways to begin your sentences. Try not to rely on “He” or “Will”. Below is a special spinner which you can use to generate a sentence opener. You can of course use others but whatever you do, try to begin sentences in a variety of ways..

This is a picture of a sentence starter spinner which you can use to choose a sentence starter. The actual spinner (which can be spun!) is below it.

Make sure you write in full sentences Kiran. There is a lot that we know about Will so I think you could write a lot more about him.

Will is a young teenage boy, he has a sporty personality. Whenever he goes to play football he pretends he is winning for the United Kingdom. He has 3 friends which are really nice. But one day when they were walking home from football, will saw a poster of war. He wanted to join so as his friend.

This is a good start Saheera. Reread it to check that it makes sense to the reader.

It would be “3 friends WHO are really nice” (relative pronoun).

Do we know anything else about Will?

    Will’s Profile.

Will is a friendly and a kind boy. He has friends called Freddy, Billy and Lacey. They work together and enjoy as a team. They don’t give up or fear something, but one thing we know is that they always help each other.

Will loves football and will carry on until he reaches the point where feels like that, he is playing football for England. He has an opposing same as him but Will has resilience all to him. He won’t stop but will keep playing until the day…

The day is when the Germans take Europe while England is persuading the people to go to the army and many felt sad for those people. Even Will’s friends were persuaded and joined and told Will to go as well. Before leaving, He wrote a letter to his family in case he will never return…

      Hello Hargun

You make some good points about Will but do reread this to check it makes complete sense to the reader.

Did Will’s friends say anything to persuade him to join the army or did Will feel that it was what he should do?

Will is an 18 year old teenager who enjoys playing football with his friends, Freddie (the goalkeeper), Billy and Lacey. Billy is Lacey’s younger brother. They all live in a village in Suffolk and they all work together in the harvest fields. The 4 of them also go to Church on a Sunday and they always sit and chat afterwards.
Will’s dream is to play and score for England one day as he would like to try new adventures. We know he is sporty and fit. When he heard about the army and saw posters around the village, he decided to join with his friends. Even though he was worried about the dangers of war, he wanted to fight for his king and country.

Great work Cody. Good use of sentence starters.

Do you think that Will is a good role model for the younger boys in the village?

Additionally Will played football and him and his friends joined the army. However Will had doubts about joining, but he had to because Billy joined and then Freddie joined, then lacy joined them Will had to because he can’t let his friends go to war without him.

      Well done Max.

What does it say about Will that he signed up partially because of the fact that his friends did?

Will is a 18 year old teenager, but his life is spent working on the fields but he loves to play football. He is very positive. He has three friends and after work Will and his friends play football. He dreams of playing for England. Over time Will and his friends decide to join the army. Though they soon regret even joining the army. I know that Will’s personality will keep him going through training and the army for a very long time. Although when the war is over I know that he will quit from the army like it said on the poster.

      Well done Owen.

You have the potential to use commas here:

Over time, Will and his friends decide to join the army.

Though they soon regret even joining the army, I know that Will’s personality will keep him going through training and the army for a very long time.
