Thank you for making us so proud and for being awesome! Thursday 25
English/ Reading:
Read the description of the sight Tranio could see from his window when exploring his city and answer the questions below:
My mind wandered out the window and onto the street, as I explored the city before me. I loved this place and I felt safe. That gentle, strong and sturdy protector was looking after us and stood proud in the mountain range. On the streets there was the sound of bustling, busy and excited sellers showing their customers fresh bread, hand crafted pots and hand made jewellery . I could smell the bread as it wafted through my nostrils and hit the back of my throat – was it lunchtime? I was distracted by the squawking, sturdy, powerful eagle circling the sky, ready for something to happen. My friend, stood on their balcony and signalled to me with a wave. The baskets of fresh, luxurious, enticing bread which had been baked by the hot bakery’s open fire was so warm that the coals were glowing purple. The potter was carving an intricate pattern on the smooth, solid, terracotta pots that would be ready to be sell in the next day or two. Glancing out of my window, I imagined what it was like over the other side of the day and whether our protector would make any rumblings.
Vocabulary:
sturdy – strong and solid
signalled – give information using an action
enticing – tempting or attractive
intricate – detailed design
- Why do you think Traino felt safe in his city?

Writing:
Mrs Denny tried to write some sentences using description, it was agreed she used some great fronted adverbials but there was not a lot of detail in her description of the place Tranio was describing. Could you help her by editing/ improving her sentences. You need to make add:
- three adjectives to describe the noun – remember our magic three rule
- write in first person
- write in past tense – was , ed endings to words
- use conjunctions so, but, as, because to extend her ideas in her sentence.
You need to help edit these sentences and write them out showing the new sentences, using the bullet points.
