The schools engagement team at the University of Northampton have sent us the following information about activities that can be done at this time. Might be useful for over the half-term.

Interested in gardening? Want to do your bit to make your local area look more appealing?

There’s a nature crisis in the UK – and around the world. Plants and animals in our own backyards are under serious threat – a massive 40% of species are in steep decline in the UK alone.

The good news is that you and your family can help by  becoming Backyard Nature Guardians! By helping plants and animals in your own backyard, you will help protect the planet for the future. FREE resources and FUN missions to get involved in.  Nature needs you. Are you in?

The National Trust’s ’50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾’ activity programme encourages children to get out in the fresh air and become closer to nature, and take notice of the environment around them through outdoor activities all year round, whatever the weather! Many of the outdoor activities can be done at home and in your garden.  Have a go at this bird checklist and see what you can spot out of your window or at the local park; create your own outdoors ‘nature’ band or create some wild art!
