Friday 12th February 2021

Good morning Year 6 – we have made it to Friday and we have completed 6 weeks of remote learning!

Firstly, I would like to say you have done a fantastic job this half term and worked incredibly hard. You should all feel very proud of yourselves!

We look forward to seeing you all on Zoom at 9:05am.

Today there will also be a Zoom session at 11am. This will be a drop-in session for you to come to if you have found any of this week’s work difficult. You can come at any time between 11 and 11:30 and either Miss Kinsella or Mrs Maruzza will be there to talk you through any work that you need help with. Make sure you bring the work with you and a pen or a piece of paper.

Writing (40 minutes)

Today, I would like you to use the skills that you learnt yesterday to write a set of instructions about a topic of your own choice.

You could write instructions about:

  • How to make a cake
  • How to play your favourite game
  • How to look after a pet
  • How to ride a bike
  • Something of your own choice.

Things to think about:

  • Does it have a clear heading?
  • Does it include a list of things that will be needed?
  • Are there clear, easy to understand steps?
  • Do your steps start with imperative verbs?
  • Are there any helpful hints?
  • Would someone who has never done your activity before, be able to pick up your instructions and be successful?

We look forward to seeing all your different instructions (and maybe even trying some out).

Maths (1 hour)

Starter challenge:

Here are today’s Rapid Reasoning questions:

Main activity:

For today’s work, you will be applying all of the skills that you have learnt this week to reasoning problems. As always, I will give you the question and (when necessary) a hint or explanation that will help you answer it.

1)

Hint: Think back to what we do when a number is right next to a letter.

2)

Hint: Remember to use the information that you have. The same shape will be worth the same amount.

3)

Hint: Remember that when a number is next to a letter we multiply. Both clues are for the same N. Find all of the possibilities.

4)

Hint: Remember that a will equal the same in both calculations. The = sign in the middle means that both sides need to have the same answer. Find the first side and you will be able to find the other.

5)

Hint: Think back to when I started from the calculation and then slowly removed everything that I didn’t know.

6)

Hint: Use the information you know. It might help to write on the shapes.

7)

Hint: For the first question you have all of the information that you need. For the second question you need to work backwards using the inverse operation.

8)

Hint: Find all of the possibilities and use the clues to help you.

9)

Hint: Use all of the information that you know and trial and error to work out the answers.

Challenge question

Hint: For this question t will have the same value. Use trial and error to work it out.

Independent Reading (20 minutes)

Spend some time lost in a good book. Why not get yourself a snack to enjoy whilst you read.

Art (1 hour)

As today is our last day on A Midsummer Night’s Dream, I would like you to create a piece of art work that shows A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

You can create it however you want e.g.

  • Paint
  • Collage
  • 3D
  • Drawing etc

Here are some ideas of what you could do:

  • A setting comparison of Athens and the forest
  • All of the characters
  • A scene from the play performed at Hippolyta and Theseus’s wedding
  • Something else of your own choice.

Make sure you send us a picture as we would like to make a display.

Quiz (30 minutes)

Join us live at 2:30pm for an end of half term quiz.

Make sure you bring a drink, a snack, some paper and a pen or pencil with you.

The quiz will have different rounds based on different topics i.e. a Harry Potter round and there will be prizes available!

How to play MineCraft on Pc ( good for starters )

on your key board you will find letters you want to find: (w)(a)(s)(d) in a triangle.
those are your control keys and when you load into a world the first thing you want to do is go get wood the way you do this is by using the mouse to look around and the space bar to jump the way you open your inventory is by pressing (e) and be careful at night because you could get killed by monsters that are dangerous. The way to get wood is simple hold the left klick on your mouse and the go in your inventory and in the top right corner you will see 5 squares put your wood logs in the 1 of the 4 squares and then it will pop up with oak wood in the 5ith square take it then put 1 oak plank in each 4 squares but the 5ith then you will get a crafting table and you want to kill animals because you see the hearts and chicken drumsticks the hearts is your health bar and your drum sticks are your hunger bars.

    Writing:
    How to make a dinosaur.
Step 1.Collect a random dinosaur DNA like Tyrannosaurus Rex for example.
Step 2. Mix the DNA with x3 red vials, x2 blue vials and x1 green vial.
step 3. Then mix all of them together then you get an embryo.
Step 4. Place the the embryo in the furnace with an egg then it will mix and you can wait for your dino to hatch.
Step 5. when the dinosaur hatches you will need a cage for it and if it’s a velociraptor then you can tame it as your friend.
Step 6.you’ll need a clicker to train her/him the clicker teaches them that you’re the alpha and be kind if not they’ll grow to betray you and rip you to shreds so be kind to them then they’ll grow to keep you safe at all costs.
Step 7. as soon as they’ve completed helping you and stop listening to you it’s time to let them go make sure they hunters don’t go for him/her and if it was to late don’t get mad you’ll create something else that’s more dangerous and bullet proof.
