Whole School Family Challenge – Friday 29th January

This week, the challenge for the whole school is to think about and present their favourite toy.

It can be a toy from the past or a toy that you still play with today.

Here is mine – Subbuteo.

Subbuteo was a football game played on a cloth pitch which could be laid on a table. The players were plastic figures on a plastic base which you moved around the pitch by flicking. This was also how you moved the ball, with players flicked towards the ball in the hope that you hit it. The other rules were pretty much the same as in normal football. The aim was to score into the plastic goal at the end of the pitch and if your player was flicked into one from the opposing team then it was a foul.

The best thing about Subbuteo was the amount of accessories that you could buy for it. Apart from the pitch, you could buy teams in the colours of numerous clubs and countries from around the world, plastic footballs, different types of goalposts and nets, corner flags, dugouts and coaching staff, and ball boys. You could even build your own stadium with grandstands and terraces, into which you could put supporters. There were advertising boards, pitch-side fences, a scoreboard and floodlights. If it existed at a football ground, you could pretty much buy it!

Unfortunately, I don’t have any of this game anymore, but I wish I did! I used to play with it for hours and enjoyed challenging family and friends to a game. A big part of the enjoyment though was not just playing the game but setting everything up. Subbuteo was a chance to lose yourself in the game of football and pretend that you were involved in your very own World Cup Final. It was awesome!

Here are some pictures.

Your task is to tell us about your favourite toy. Can’t wait to hear about them! Get your family involved too!

Here are some of the pictures sent in so far!

Cody says:

Godzilla 2014

This is my favourite toy because of his detail and design. He looks realistic and his limbs, tail and mouth can move. He is my favourite Godzilla from all of the movies. When I play with this toy, I can make the sound effects like in the movies. I also love the theme tune. The roar noise he makes in the movie is the best out of all of the Godzillas in my opinion. I am excited about the new movie coming out in May with this Godzilla in it with King Kong.
