Year 1 (Home Learning) – Monday 25th January
GOOD MORNING YEAR 1,
WE ARE WRITING IN CAPITAL LETTERS BECAUSE WE ARE SO EXCITED FOR THE WEEK AHEAD!
WE CANNOT WAIT FOR OUR DAILY ZOOMS, PHONICS LESSONS AND HAVING A LOOK THROUGH ALL OF YOUR HARD WORK!
Our theme of the week is …
Discuss the meaning of the word resilience with the people you live with.
We will be looking for children to award the Set the Standard Certificate to this week who have shown great resilience with their learning!
We also hope that you wrapped up warm and had lots of fun enjoying the exciting weather yesterday!
Here is the CBBC’s Lockdown Learning schedule for this week:
- The 20 minute Bitesize Daily age 5-7 sessions @ 9:00am will be an additional way of supporting the children’s learning at home – particularly as we continue our Science focus this week!
- We have highlighted two of the Celebrity Supply Teacher sessions on Monday and Tuesday, as Darcey Bussell’s Dance lesson should be great fun and Katie Piper’s lesson will be on wellbeing.
- On Thursday @ 10:15am, Horrible Histories are airing an episode on the Crimean War – which we mentioned briefly whilst we were learning about Mary Seacole and Edith Cavell. This will be a great way to revisit and review the children’s learning.

A reminder of the expectations of Home Learning:
- There will be a daily Zoom registration @ 10:40am, during which a member of the Year 1 Team will greet the children and discuss the activities for the day ahead.
- The expectation is for children to be on the daily Zoom registration and engaging with the set activities on our Year 1 Blog – Phonics, Literacy, Maths and a Curriculum subject.
- Please email children’s work across to their class teacher at: yearone@lingsprimary.org.uk
Here are your activities for the day:

Literacy
- I can write a letter.
- I can explain my ideas using the word ‘because’.
Magical Fairy Puck has left us another letter …
Here is the next part of the story:
In Athens, a long time ago, the law said that a daughter had to marry the man of her father’s choice or be punished. There was a girl called Hermia and she loved Lysander and he loved her back, but her Father Egeus wanted her to marry Demetrius. Hermia did not love Demetrius but he thought he might love her.
Hermia’s Father (Egeus) took her to Duke Theseus, Lysander and Hermia pleaded with the Duke Theseus.
Hermia thought the law was unfair and she told them how she felt.
Activity:
What do you think she could say to her father and the Duke to make them change their minds?
As Puck told us, we would like you to write a letter to Duke Theseus and Hermia’s Father, Egeus – asking the King and her father to change their minds.
Maths
Starter
White Rose: Counting forward and backwards & writing numbers to 20 in numbers and words
You may need 20 counters and 2 x 10 frames.
We understand that counters are not a common object found in most homes, so think about something else that the children could use to represent a counter, e.g. pasta, lego, coins, ect.
Please see template of 2 x 10 frames below.
Watch the video and follow the questions with the White Rose teacher
Answering the questions on the sheet below when you are asked (Q 1 and 2, then Q3)

maths . Tiger Lilly said she can see 17 triangles.
Hi Tiger-Lilly,
Great start! I think there might be even more triangles hiding in there!
Have a closer look and think outside of the box!
Well done,
Year 1 Team 🙂
