Good morning Year 6 – can you believe that another week is done!

We look forward to seeing you on Zoom at 9:05am.

Warm up activity (15 minutes)

Reading (30 minutes)

Below is an argument that takes place between Oberon and Titania (Fairy King and Queen)

OBERON
I’ll met by moonlight, proud Titania.
TITANIA
What, jealous Oberon! Fairies, skip hence:
I have forsworn his bed and company.
OBERON
Tarry, rash wanton: am not I thy lord?
Why should Titania cross her Oberon?
I do but beg a little changeling boy
To be my henchman.
TITANIA
His mother was a votress of my order:
But she, being mortal, of that boy did die:
And for her sake do I rear up her boy,
And for her sake I will not part with him.
OBERON
How long within this wood intend you stay?
TITANIA
Perchance till after Theseus’ wedding-day.
If you will patiently dance in our round
And see our moonlight revels, go with us;
If not, shun me, and I will spare your haunts.
OBERON
Give me that boy, and I will go with thee.
TITANIA
Not for thy fairy kingdom. Fairies, away!
We shall chide downright, if I longer stay.
This argument happens right before Oberon sends Puck with the love potion.
What do you think the argument is about?
Vocabulary:
Forsworn – give up
Perchance – perhaps
Shun – ignore or avoid
Chide – scold or tell off
Watch the beginning of the clip below where it will give you a clearer understanding of the argument. Feel free to watch the whole clip but this text appears in the first 2 minutes.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/english-a-midsummer-nights-dream-3-into-the-woods/z6k892p
Task:
Summarise the argument in your own words making sure you only include the important information and leave out the unnecessary information.
You could start like this:
Oberon says hello to Titania but she calls him jealous and tells her fairies that they are leaving because she doesn’t want to be around him.
Writing (1 hour 15 minutes)
So far we have looked at 2 separate worlds in A Midsummer Night’s Dream:
                                                                        The world of Athens
The world of the forest (fairies)
There is another world but we will look at that next week.
I want you to think about what might happen when these two worlds meet and collide.
Often, films, books and television suggest that it doesn’t go well! Look at these examples:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Np_D69Ee3u4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjipAlQKwgI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oEWA7UglB4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0eOQEVMmmI
This is normally because we are scared of the unknown and usually assume they are bad (especially when magic is involved)
Soon, the world of Athens and the world of the fairies will meet as Hermia, Lysander, Demetrius and Helena enter the forest.
Your task is to predict what might happen and write the next part of the story.
Be as creative and inventive as you like. Even if you know what happens, feel free to change it completely!
Your story could be:
  • Happy when everyone gets on
  • Funny where they all plays tricks on each other
  • Scary were they don’t get on and lots of problems happen
  • A mixture where it starts bad but they learn to work together.

The choice is yours!

We look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Maths (1 hour 15 minutes)

Starter challenge

Here is today’s Rapid Reasoning questions:

Main challenges
Today we are going to look at averages.
There are 4 averages – do you know any of them?
The 4 averages we will be looking at are:
  • The mean
  • The median
  • The mode
  • The range

Do you know what any of these mean?

We will go through them one at a time.

The Mean:

This is the average that is used most and if you see a question saying ‘the average is …’ they are usually talking about the mean.

Here is a set of data:

5           4            6           6         3         2       8

To find the mean of a set of data, the first thing we need to do is add all the data up.

5 + 4 + 6 + 6 + 3 + 2 + 9 = 35

Then we need to divide our answer by how many numbers there are within the data

35 divided by 7 = 5

The mean = 5.

Let’s have a look at another set of data:

12       15       8       14       7       19

First we need to add them all up:

12 + 15 + 8 + 14 + 7 + 19 = 75

Now let’s divide the answer by how many bits of data there is:

75 divided by 6. This can’t be done without leaving a remainder so one way to do this is:

60 divided by 6 = 10

15 divided by 6 = 2.5

10 + 2.5 = 12.5

Now you try to find the mean for these sets of data:

Mean

The Median

The median is the middle number and it is a very easy average to find.

Let’s look at our first set of data again:

5           4            6           6         3         2         8

To find the median, our first job is to put the data in order from smallest to largest:

2      3      4      5      6      6      8

Then we cross off or remove numbers from either side until we are left with a middle number:

2      3      4      5      6      6      8

3      4      5      6      6

4      5      6

5

So the median is 5.

Lets have a look at another set of data:

12       15       8       14       7       19

Remember the first thing that we have to do is order the numbers from smallest to largest:

7      8      12      14      15      19

Now, we need to find the middle number by getting rid of the numbers from either end.

8      12      14      15

12      14

Can you see a problem that we have here?

We have 2 middle numbers.

When this happens we need to add our 2 remaining numbers and divide them by 2 in order to find our median.

12 + 14 = 26

26 divided by 2 = 13

The median is 13.

Now you try finding the median:

Median

The Mode

The mode is the most common number – the number that appears in the set of data the most.

If we have a look at this set of data:

5           4            6           6         3         2       8

The number appears the most

The mode is 6

Let’s have a look at this next set of data:

4      1      5      4      5      6

Here you can see that the number 4 and the number 5 both appear twice so that makes them both the mode.

The mode is 4 and 5.

Now you try some:

Mode

The Range

The last type of average that we are looking at is the range.

To find the range we have to find the difference between the largest number in the data and the smallest number in the data.

Let’s look at an example:

Here is a set of data:

5           4            6           6         3         2         8

First job is to order the numbers from smallest to largest.

2      3      4      5      6      6      8

The largest number is 8

The smallest number is 2

To find the difference, we subtract

so

8 – 2 = 6

The range is 6

Lets have a look at another example:

15     12     28     21     7

First we order them:

7      12      15      21     28

Largest = 28

Smallest = 7

28 – 7 = 21

The range is 21

Now you have a go:

Range

Independent Reading (30 minutes)

Spend 20 minutes reading a book of your own choice then answer the following questions:

  1. What is the title of your book?
  2. Is your book fiction or non-fiction?
  3. Who is the author?
  4. What is your book about?
  5. Would rating would you give your book out of 5?
  6. Who in the class would you recommend the to and why?

Art (1 hour)

This week we are going to be creating the forest from A Midsummer Night’s Dream through art.

First have a look at these images of forests again:

Forests

I would like you to use art to create the forest in whichever way you like. Don’t forget to add lots of detail including the characters.

You could:

  • Use tree rubbings, leaves twigs etc to create a piece of 3D art
  • Build the forest using cereal boxes etc
  • Draw/paint the forest
  • Something of your own choice.

Enjoy and we look forward to seeing some pictures of your magical forest!

    Summary
Titania and Oberon are having an argument. Oberon is angry because Titania won’t give him the boy fairy so he asks Puck to get a magical flower in order to I’m barace her. But the flower has got clouds cupid dust on it which makes the flower magical. If it goes on someone’s eyelides it makes the person fall deeply in love with the first living thing they see.

Helena and Demetrius are chasing after Lysander and Hermia but what they didn’t know they where in a haunted forest where a chain of reactions where waiting just for them there were dangeous monsters like the Wendigo, dinos, demons, carnivorus monsters,Xenomorphs and a giant monster with huge tenticles and trendils with 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 teeth.
“Where’d they go?” Asked Helena ”

A huge roar behind them eachoed threw the forest and sprinted at them with 1,000x speed Demetrius fell over while Helena dragged him away and the wendigo hated bad people so it would attack Helena while the monster (called mutated deaths-head hawks moth.) STRIKED THE WENDIGO MAKING IT FALL INTO A TREE MAKING IT GET IMPALED THREW THE STOMACH IT GOT OF AND BATTLED THE MONSTER whilst Helena and Demetrius found Hermia and Lysander chased by demons and dinos the Wendigo quickly wipped the demons out making them bite the dust and the wendigo went back and retreted back to it’s base the Tyranosaurus Res went for the bite to Lysander but missed then the dinosaurs saw the mutated deaths-head hawks moth and fought it to the death 90 dinosaurs got flung off into the distance injured while the rest were still fighting the mutated deaths-head hawks moth then A XENOMORPH JUMPED OUT OF NO WHERE AND POUNCED ON THE MUTATED DEATHS-HEAD HAWK MOTH AND USED IT TOUNG WITH A MOUTH AND BIT IT’S SELF MAKING ITS ACID BLOOD SPRAY ALL OVER THE MUTATED DEATHS-HEAD HAWK MOTH AS IT BURNT THE XENOMORPHS WERE SACRAFISING THEM SELFS JUST TO KILL THE MUTATED DEATHS-HEAD HAWK MOTH THEN THE ALIEN QUEEN CHARGED AND FINISHED OFF THE MUTATED DEATHS HAWK MOTH PUSHING IT OFF THE CLIFF…Everything went back to normal the dinos left the humans alone even the Xenomorphs and they helped the 90 injured dinosaurs and they all recovered and they all live happily ever after or did they?

I think the fairies will find out that hermia is running away and they will tell Egeus but they only get hermia on one condition no humans ever enter the forest ever again and disturb are fairy’s. But also they have to let Helena and Demetrius get married and let Hermia and Lysander get married, but there was a problem because Helena told Demetrius Hermia doesn’t trust Helena anymore which means they have lost there friendship and the flower dust that goes in Titanias eyes doesn’t work so Oberon tries it and falls in love with cupid the fairy but did he know because Puck is very funny he did not put them in Titanias eyes he just tricked Oberon to make everyone around laugh happily ever after.😂
