Reception Home Learning Friday 27th November

Good morning

We hope that you all managed the home learning yesterday.  If there is anything that you are finding difficult to access please do let us know.  Here are today’s activities:

Phonics

On a Friday in phonics we focus on the high frequency words (we call them tricky or rocket words) that cannot be sounded out, for example the, was, be or go.  Whilst we are all at home it would be a great time to try to learn these.  The children cannot sound them out so need to just be able to recognise them and sight read them.  Way that you can help them to learn them –

  • Sound them out incorrectly and ask the children to correct you
  • Write 2 sets out on cards and play pairs where you place them all facing down and try and find a matching pair of words
  • Have one set of cards face down and get the children to pick one at a time and attempt to remember
  • Get the children to copy them out 3 times and then rub them out and try to remember how to write them from memory.
  • Say a word and race to write it
  • Read a book and get the children to point at every rocket word that they see.

The words are:

Rocket 1: I, the, into, to, no, go and put

Rocket 2: he, she, we, me, be, was and of

Rocket3: you, they, all, are, my and her

Rocket 4: said, have, like, so. do, come and some

Rocket 5: were, there, little, one, when, out and what

Rocket 6: oh, their, people, Mr, Mrs and look

Rocket 7: called, asked, could, looked and because.

Clearly we do not expect all the children to come back and know them all.  See how many they know and then just add one or two a time and keep building up that way.

Speaking and Listening

Today we would like you to play Mrs Henderson’s listening game.  Remember to talk in full sentences when you tell your grown up what you can hear.

Maths

You will need your listening and counting skills for this first game.  I’m going to put a number of marbles in my bag and then stop.  You need to remember how many are in the bag when I add some more so that you can tell your grown up how many there are altogether.  Remember to put the first number in your head and then count on.

The next game has Sarah, Percy and Bill in it.  They are all hungry.  Sarah always has one more worm than Percy and Percy always has one more than Bill,  This means that Sarah has 2 more worms than Bill and Bill two less worms than Sarah.  Watch me on the video and then you can play the game with your grown up.  Grown ups you could draw 3 owls or use 3 bowls to represent them.  Just start with one more and one less and if your child can do this you can do 2 more and 2 less but please do not worry if they cannot do that part.  You can use objects or, if your child is able, get them to write the numbers down.

Mrs Cieslik has been playing a similar game with feathers.

Physical Development

On Tuesday we were not able to use the hall for PE so we did some yoga in class.  The children loved it – cosmic kids is a lovely site and if the children are restless indoors this is highly recommended.  This is the one we did this week

Reading

Please re-read the book sent home this week to build confidence and fluency.

Expressive Art and Design

Can you make a nest for the owls?  You could gets some twigs and leaves from the garden or ask someone to bring you some from the park?  You could paint a picture?  You could make one out of lego?  Maybe you could bake a cake?  Whatever you do put a picture up on Tapestry and we will make a gallery next week for you to see.

Story – Owl Babies

At the end of the story I ask the children to tell you this week’s vocabulary – nocturnal, swoop, flap and trunk.

Thank you to everyone who has joined our morning registers, put pictures of their children’s work on Tapestry and generally supported the children with their learning. Those children who are sharing their work with us every day will receive a special certificate on the following two Tuesdays – We hope that you have a restful weekend and we will see you next week.

Best wishes

The Reception Team
