Reception Home Learning Thursday 26th November

Hello everyone

Registration

You should have received a link on e-mail inviting you to a zoom call 10.30 for Nightingale Class and 10.45 for Hargreaves Class.  This will give us the opportunity to say hello to everyone and talk you through today’s work.  If you have not got an email please contact the school office to advise which address they should be sending it to.

Well done – to Ezmae for being the first to post her maths work on Tapestry! Good job Ezmae!

Phonics

We have recorded two phonics lessons.  One is for the children who sit on Mrs O’Hagan’s carpet and the other is for all the other children.  Your child should know by now where they sit but if not e-mail us.  They all have their phonics packs with them (please, please keep them safe as they need to be returned to school).  For the phonics lesson they need their board, pen and rubber.  We have left gaps where they need to write but you may need to pause the video if they need longer.

Maths

Starter: Counting up – with your child take turns counting as high as they can, you say 1, they say 2, you say 3, they say 4 etc.

This week we started finding one more and one less.

You can use the same resources as yesterday – two pieces of paper, some items to count and additionally the number track in the pack, or you could make your own. I have recorded a lesson for you to watch. We would normally spend 20 minutes on our maths sessions, so when you have worked through one example of finding one more please continue, asking your children to find one more than different numbers. When they are confident you can move to one less.

If the children are still wanting more maths please see this video from Jack Hartman on subitising to 5. That is recognising an amount without having to count it.  The children really enjoy this and I am sure will love to show you their skills!

Speaking and Listening and Literacy activities

We have been reading the story Owl Babies this week and yesterday we were going to write a kind note to the three owlets, Sarah, Percy and Bill.  They were feeling sad as they had woken up and their mummy had gone!  We met Sarah and she said that some kind notes would cheer them up!  Please can you ask your children to talk to you about Sarah and the story and what they could write to cheer her and her brothers up.  Unfortunately we could not do it in school so today we would like you to write a note to the owls.  Parents these notes will be short like….Be happy, or I luv you, Mum will be back etc.  The children are unlikely to spell the words correctly and will just sound the words out.  If they cannot write a short sentence or some words then please get them to write their name.  If you are able, please can you upload a picture of their work onto Tapestry.

We did not get to finish to whole book so here it is so the children will know that there was a happy ending!

Physical Development

In the pack of work sent home there is a set of sheets in how to form letters.  Please can you practise c and o and a ensuring that your child starts at the top of the letter and moves their pencil in an anti clockwise direction.

Reading

Please read the book we have sent home and please can you login and register to the Oxford Owls website as we will signpost you to phonics books to read from this site.  It is at oxfordowl.co.uk

Please e-mail us on reception@lingsprimary.org.uk if you have any questions or queries.  If you are able, please can you put any pictures of work up on Tapestry and keep the work (where possible) to come back into school.  It is a difficult time for us all but we will support you however possible.

Best wishes

The Reception Team
