Thursday 16th July – Year 5

Good morning Year 5 – how are we all?

Here are your tasks for today:

Warm up:

What questions does this picture make you think of?

English

Here are two poems by a poet called Valerie Bloom. The first is ‘River’ and the second is ‘Frost’.

The River Poem – Valerie Bloom

Frost by Valerie Bloom for literacy

Did you like how she described these very simple things?

I’d like you to write a poem today – you can use either river or frost to focus on, or you could choose another type of weather or something from nature.

How might you describe your chosen thing and bring it to life? A great opportunity to use alliteration and personification!

Maths

A couple of investigations for you to try today!

  1. Have a look at this one. You will need to do a few examples and then you should notice something. Tell me what you notice.

Kaprekarโ€™s Operation

2) Have a look at this problem:

Here are the answers – no peeking until you’ve tried it!

Answers – Thursday

Quiz

Have a go at the following quiz:

Have fun today.

Take care,

      Hi Jessica,

I presume this is the ‘Joins’ puzzle?
Is 29 the lowest score for 4 joins? Are the numbers joined on the grid?

      Double check the solution.

    The ocean is silent ,
    silent like a mouse
    you cant hear it
    if your near your house.

the ocean is a helper ,
    it helps the boats
    the boats are grateful
    because they can float.

      Hi Sadia,

What a lovely poem – I particularly liked the part about the ocean being a helper.

Don’t forget the apostrophe in can’t.

      Hi Alex,

Some lovely ideas about the wind in your poem. I liked how you contrasted strength, cold and calm.
