Here are today’s activities…
English – Reading
Read the text ‘Annie and the Pirate King’ by Jenny Feely and answer the following questions in full sentences.
Annie grabbed the feather from the bag. She ran up to the sea monster and began to tickle it’s huge chin.
At first, the sea monster was surprised. It began to shake and quiver, then it opened its mouth and burst out laughing.
The Pirate King fell to the deck. Annie kept on tickling the sea monster. It laughed and laughed. It shook so much from laughing that the jewels began to fall out of it’s mouth.
Annie opened the box and ran around the ship catching the jewels as they fell.
As soon as Annie stopped tickling the giant sea monster, it raised its head high above the ship and roared a terrible roar. Then, with a gigantic splash, the sea monster threw itself back into the sea and was never seen again.
- What does ‘quiver’ mean?

Sounds-Write Phonics – Recap spelling <u> <oul> as this are often written as /oo/ in put and could for example.
Review – read the following Year 2 common exception words: children, climb, eye, would, many.
Read: put, could, would, should
Write: couldn’t, shouldn’t, wouldn’t, putting.
Dictation: I shouldn’t put the hot food on the counter side as it could burn it and it would be a shame.

Pick a window in your home and look out. What can you see? What do you notice? What colours can you see? What patterns can you seen?
You can use any materials and it can be any size.

Quiver means your body is shaking.
The sea monster was laughing because Annie was tickling him.
The empty box was useful because the jewels could go in it .
Four words are, shiny, bright, expensive and precious.
Another word instead of terrible is destroying.
The sea monster dived under the water, back to his giant palace so he could protect his precious jewels.
The huge beautiful palace was hidden behind lots of colourful weeds.

ENGLISH – READING
1. What does ‘quiver’ mean? Quiver i think means cold.
2. Why was the sea monster laughing? The sea monster was laughing, because the feather was tickling him.
3. Why was the empty box useful? As the sea monster was laughing so much, as he shook the jewels were dropping into the empty box.
4. Can you think of four adjectives to describe the jewels? Flashy, Sparkly, Large, Colourful.
5. Can you think of a word to use instead of ‘terrible’ when describing the roar. Frightful.
ENGLISH – WRITING
Where did the sea monster go? What is the place like? The sea monster went back into the deep sea, where he was back with all the wonderful other sea creatures and tropical fishes.
