Tuesday 23rd June – Year 5

Hi Year 5 – I hope you and your families are all very well.

I’m glad to see that some of your have signed up for the Summer Reading Challenge – remember to tell me when you do.

Here are today’s tasks:

Punctuation

I thought that we would get some extra  practice on our punctuation. Some of you are forgetting more basic punctuation as you write so I’d like you to put the correct punctuation into the following text:

Prince jack galloped down the lane with his marvellous shining sword drawn. Its tip pointed aggressively towards the heart of the formidable dragon. Leave the princess alone He roared in his thunderous voice. Do you think that I need you to save me laughed the outspoken princess. You dont even have a proper horse. I will not be saved by anyone riding a donkey the prince timidly turned his donkey around and rode back to his castle feeling quite embarrassed

English

Here are three drawings from an artist, based on stories from survivors:

I’d like you to write a descriptive piece of writing, describing what is happening. Think of your senses – not just what you can see but also what you can hear, smell, taste and touch. Think about what the atmosphere would have been like – terror, panic etc.

What might people by saying?

Maths

Warm up

Next, I’d like you to watch a second video about translation which builds on what you started yesterday.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/describing-translations

Again, let me know at least 2 things that you learnt from the video today.

Spanish

The following lesson will focus on saying how you feel in Spanish:

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/saying-how-you-feel-in-spanish-06edea

Blog me with how you are feeling.

Take care,

Mrs Millard and Mrs Munro XX

      Well done Sadia,

Should there be a comma in the first sentence?
Should you have included any inverted commas?

I am in a ship and all i can see is huge waves and panicking people. All i can hear is children screaming as the waves crash against the boat so hard that the boat is going on it’s side . I can smell the seaweed coming from underneath the sea and the fishes trying to escape the waves . As the boat rocks i can taste the salty water coming in to my mouth . As I try not to move i can feel the sogginess of the boat .

    Good morning
The pictures are very old fashioned and dull and bland . In the first picture it looks like the boat is crashing against the sea the waves are so sharp like lightning. They are so detailed …

    Hello Mrs Millard,
    Punctuation
Prince Jack galloped down the lane with his marvellous, shining sword drawn. It’s tip pointed aggressively towards the heart of the formidable dragon.
“Leave the princess alone!” he roared in his tremendous voice.
“Do you think that I need you to save me?” laughed the outspoken princess. “You don’t even have a proper horse. I will not be saved by anyone riding a donkey.” The prince timidly turned his donkey around and rode back to his castle feeling quite embarrassed.

I can see the Titanic drowning lots of lifeboats sailing and bits of ice . I can hear people shouting , crying and people running. I smelled the water , the cold wind and the smoke from the funnels . I could taste every one blood turning to ice . Every one was touching the bars trying to be safe . everyone was in panic because they don’t want to die .
