Year 2 Home Learning Tasks – Monday 18th May

Hi Year 2

We hope you had a great weekend.

If you were in school like normal, this week would of been our quiz week. It would be your chance to show off all of your amazing knowledge.

While it is disappointing to miss them, you can still show us your fantastic learning by commenting on the blog or emailing us your work.

Here are today’s learning activities.

English – Grammar

You are going to be the teacher and do some marking.

Below are sentences that are missing capital letters and full stops.

Read the sentences then rewrite them so that they are correct.

English – Writing

This week we are going to be looking at letter writing.

Write a list, using bullets points, about what you need to include when writing a letter.

Are there any specific features in a letter you must include?

Have you written a letter before? Who to and why did you write the letter?

Sounds-Write Phonics (‘ed’ to a root word that ends with a y. Copy becomes copied so the ‘y’ becomes ‘i’ before the ending is added)

Review: Read the following Year 2 words – pretty, should, door, because, sugar, parents, Mr.

Read: copied, tried, cried, hurried.

Write: ferry – ferried, carry – carried, marry – married, worry – worried

Dictation: The worried man cried as he tried to carry the married lady.

Maths – Basic Skills

Below are some quiz style (arithmetic) calculations.

Find the total for the four different mathematical operations.

Maths – Task

Look at the two step problems below.

Solve the problem and explain what you did, what you noticed and how you did it.

Handwriting

Warm up: Wiggle your fingers up high, down low, to the side and in front of you.
Stretch your fingers out like fireworks five times.

Write the following Year 2 Common Exception Words joined up at least six times? Remember to leave a finger space.
* the

*should

* plant

* sugar

Tick your neatest formation and be proud of your handwriting.

History

For History today we are going to use a new BBC Bitesize online History lesson. It’s about Neil Armstrong and should remind you of your learning from our History lessons.

Watch the video/lesson and complete activity 1 and 2.

Please let us know how you got on with this style of lesson. Did you enjoy it? Was it useful? Was there anything you didn’t like about it?

Story

Watch and listen to a wonderfully calming story.

Remember to leave us a comment on the blog to share your learning or you can email it to us at yeartwo@lingsprimary.org.uk. Get in touch with us via the email if you have any questions about today’s learning. We look forward to seeing your work!

    Every morning, I wake up at exactly half past seven. The first thing I do is run down the stairs and eat my breakfast. Usually, I have a boiled egg with toast fingers. Next, I have a wash and brush my teeth. After that I put on my school uniform. Finally I give my mum and dad a goodbye kiss and walk to school.

    .full stops
    .capital letters
    .nice handwriting
    .write their name
    .put a stamp on it
    .write their address

    I have written a letter to Eric at an old people’s home and he wrote back to me. i write a letter to Santa at Christmas.

      Well Done Elliot!
      I like that you thought about your handwriting as well as the other features of a letter.
