Year 2 Home Learning – Thursday 4th February

Good morning Year 2!

It’s another day of home learning.

We’ve seen some great work that has been emailed to us, and we’d love to see more.

Remember we have a zoom register at 10.20am every morning. It is important you log in to this on time so that we can say good morning to each other, complete an online activity as well as explaining our work for the day. A link for this has been sent to the parent email you have registered at school. Please email us at the Year 2 email address if you need a new link sending to you.
Please bring paper and a pencil/pen to the zoom register.

Please remember to comment on the blog when you have completed your tasks, and to email us your completed work so we can see what you have been doing and support you if needed. Work can be emailed to yeartwo@lingsprimary.org.uk.
Have a great day and we will be waiting for you when we can all go back to school together!

Miss Duncan, Miss Battams and the rest of the Year 2 team.

Here is today’s home learning tasks

English Reading

Have a look at the new diary entry from Hermia. Read it carefully and then have a go at answering the questions below. Remember all answers should be in full sentences, use the word because to explain your thinking and use evidence from the text.

  1. In two sentences write what has happened in the forest.

     2. What are the rumours about the forest?

3. Why do you think Hermia ‘doesn’t want to’ go back to her father?

4. Find two ways Hermia describes her feelings.

The text and questions will be read to you in the video below.

English – Writing

Retrieval: Have a think about everything you have learnt so far about the play. Who are the characters? How are they connected? What has happened in the forest so far? What has happened in Athens so far?

Have a look at the new diary entry from Hermia you have just used for reading. After reading it again, can you identify what is wrong with it? Can you highlight the errors in the text like we do in class, and have a go at correcting them and making it a better text? You may need to add adjectives or change spellings. Use the example on the video to show you how you can do this. If you do not have highlighters you can draw a line under the mistakes. If you cannot print it off to complete, you could write it out adding in the corrections as you do.

Phonics

For phonics today, think back to all the spellings of the oo sound we have looked at this week. There are three different tasks explained in the video below.

Task 1 is to practise reading some of the words we have looked at with the sound of the week in.

Task 2 is to sort the words into the correct spelling of their sound.

Task 3 is to sort the words our into alien words and real words.

PE

The results of the Jasmine PE year group competition for January are in, and unfortunately Year 2 finished bottom in the school for the amount of children logging in to their PE and completing their tasks 🙁

Scores have been reset and the competition has been restarted for February. Can we get Year 2 higher up the table this month?

Your log in details were provided either by letter to your child before Christmas or via email to your pupil email address, but please let us know if you need these again and we will send them to you.

Use this link to access the Jasmine PE log in with your details.     https://real.jasmineactive.com/login

Remember, there are certificates available for those children who access and complete some of the tasks and you could also win star of the week certificates.

Take a look at the PE blog for some videos and help with PE at home. Don’t forget you can also take part in the virtual school games. look out for the posts on the blog with the details.

Story

Today’s story is read by Miss Battams and is called the Little Red Hen.

Online Reading

We have an online log in which will link to some ebooks that follow our reading scheme in school. These books will allow your child to practice their phonics skills. It is a free resource. You may need to register for a free parent account to access the books.

Follow this link to log in: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/?selLanguage=en&mode=hub
Go to Oxford Owl for Home and click on enter site.
This will give you the option to choose a book recommended for your age or you can choose a book from the colour you read at school.
These are all free to read and it would be great if you could read one to someone at home.

Remember to leave us a comment on the blog to share your learning or you can email it to me at yeartwo@lingsprimary.org.uk.
We look forward to seeing your work!
