Reception Home Learning Friday 15th May

It’s Friday! We have been busy bees this week 🐝! After your learning tasks for today you will see some of the fantastic learning that we have had in. Well done everyone!

Understanding the World:

Watch this little video about bees –

Can you answer these questions?

What is a beehive?

What is the queen’s job?

Why do bees do a waggle dance? can you do a waggle dance? 😁

Maths

A

I am going back to the shop to buy honey.

small jar 4p             medium jar 7p               large jar 10p

I buy 1 small jar and 1 large jar. How much money do I need?

I buy 3 small jars. How much money do I need?

I buy 1 medium jar and I pay with 20p. How much change do I get?

B

If your child is now confident counting up in 2s, 5s and 10s you can start to combine this. At school we would use numicon but at home you could improvise with body parts. For example, 2 sets of toes, 10, 20 plus 2 separate hands, 25, 30 then add a pair of eyes 32 and a pair or ears 34. You can use money if your child understands the value but start with counting body parts with feet as 10s, hands as 5s and eyes and ears as 2s.

Our wonderful learning this week:

First we have Connell doing some amazing maths! Thank you so much for letting us share 🙂

Understanding the World

Good news from Mrs Tucker – her baby robins have flown the nest.  They were in the bird box for about 15 days – yesterday morning there was only one left in there so we don’t know how many there were – maybe 3 or 4.  Here’s the picture of the last one just before they left and then sitting in the garden.  It will be a few days until they can fly and until then they stay in the garden (they are currently under bushes) and their parents continue to feed them.  Then, apparently, they stay close to the nest for a month or so.

Have a great weekend everyone! See you all next week 😊

A beehive is where bees live and make honey
The Queen bee lays lots of eggs
They do a waggle dance to show other bees where flowers are

Zanti was very excited to see the robins, she said they don’t look like robins at the minute and that it’s like the owl babies story

Zanti! You are right, they don’t look like robins yet. Good remembering about the Owl Babies. Well done on answering the bee questions 😊 🐝 Mrs O’Hagan
