# Friday 15th May – Year 5

Good morning everyone!!!

I hate to start the day with a moan, but I was a little bit disappointed with the History work from yesterday.  Please can we have a bit more effort and enthusiasm for the subjects other than Maths and English?

Maths

Yesterday we found out about area.  Today we’re going to try and find the area of compound shapes.  Compound shapes can be divided into smaller shapes, if you work out the area for each part and then add them together you can find the total area.

Now try these –  it might help to sketch them out, and draw your division onto the shapes.

English

Spanish

Good Morning Mrs Leeming,
Here is my English for today,

1. Words and a phrase to describe Poseidon are, Huge, Colossal and Under a silver mane of tangled hair.

2. I think Athena didn’t turn around is because she knew he would strike his spear to the ground, then she would have more power than Poseidon.

3.I think that Poseidon said ”Daddy would be proud” because he is jealous that she outsmarted him so he was jealous and said it sarcastically.

4. I think that Poseidon and Athena differ because he is very overconfident and she’s very calm,in size they differ so he is bigger than her and she is smaller than him,Athena doesn’t show any emotion but Poseidon shows anger and jealousy.

Brilliant answers Lydia, very clear with evidence. And you’ve used the lines to help guide you with how much you need to write for your answers!

2- Maybe, but I think she is trying to stay in control of the situation and not let Poseidon be in charge
3- Possibly, but I think he is teasing her because her father is Zeus
4- That’s 1 way. The question asked for 3, and there’s lots of space to write- remember in a test that means there are more marks available and they expect a longer, more detailed answer.

I’m not sure which Maths this is for Alex.
If it’s todays, have a look at the measurements- some of them need converting because for example
the first one is in both cm and m. Try to make them all the same before you start.
If you send me your calculations I can help if you’re getting stuck.
Remember to break the shape up into different rectangles and work out each piece, then add them together.
