Thursday 7th May- Year 5

Good morning everyone!  I hope you are all having a lovely week and enjoying the sunshine.

Me gusto mucho el sol!  I really like the sun!

Tomorrow is a bank holiday because it is the 75th anniversary since VE day.  Has anyone put any decorations up?  Or are you having a party in your garden to celebrate?  Send me some pictures  and I’ll add them to the blog.   There won’t be any school work set as it’s a holiday.

Maths

Last week we found out about perimeter.  If you missed that blog go back to Thursday and Friday’s blogs and look at the videolinks to find out some more.

Now try this.

English

Next week we are going to write our non-chronological texts.   So one last look at a text to see what it should look like.

What features can you see that tell you it is a non-chronological text?

History

One off special-  find out about VE day in 1945.

Imagine you were there,  write a diary/postcard/letter to describe it to someone else.

    Maths

    1. 4 cm

    2. 44 m 24 cm

True because when an odd number is added to another it’s an even number so if you do it again
    it will be the same.

1.4 is not correct. Try counting how many sides there are…
24 could be one answer, can you find the others?
Yes, even numbers added together always give an even total.

And yes it is true, when we add any even numbers together you will always get an even total.

    Good Morning Mrs Leeeming,
I noticed in the poem video your arm is in a sling. Are you ok?

    Maths
    1. The shape has 12 equal sides so I did 48÷12=4cm
    2. 24÷4=6, 44÷4=11, 64÷4=16
    3. A rectangle has two pairs of equal sides. Two odd numbers always make an even number. I tested it out lots of times and it’s true. 1+1=2, 3+3=6, 5+5=10, 7+7=14

To show that it’s a non chronological report there is a heading, sub headings, diagrams and photographs. You can read it in any order and the text is factual.

V.E day is short for victory in Europe day, marks the defeat over Germany by the Allied Forces WW2 . On May 8th, 1945, former Prime Minister Winston Churchill announced that Germany had finally surrendered. V.E Day doesn’t mark the end of WW2 – the end is considered to be on September 2nd, 1945 after the defeat of Japan.

    Maths:

    1.Each side would be 4cm
    2. 24m would be 6m around the square, 44m would be another and it will have 11m around it,64m would be another and it will have 16m around it.
    3. Always because the perimeter will always be even, because the length is multiplied by 2, making it even, and is added to the width which has been multiplied by 2, also making it even.

It’s in non-chronological because there’s no sign of like dates in order or numbers to 1 to 10 there’s none of that. It’s more like a geography book rather than a history or english book. And it has an eye catching heading in a large font. Also the paragraphs are split and talk different areas of that subject.

Well spotted Zain. So we can read this kind of text in any order, but they have sub headings to help the reader find the information they need.

    History

8th of May 1945 this was the time when it finally ended. I was free from the horrid place under neath the ground also known as a bunker. Once I climbed up to the ladder I was ready to open the hatch, as soon as I opened it, I felt free I was feeling the old vibes from when it was normal and not like this. But as soon as I saw the world I was in despair everything was burnt, broken and into pieces. It weren’t like this before the Nazi’s came.
