Wednesday 6th May – Year 5

Good morning Year 5 – ready to learn?

English

  1. Reading
    a) Tell us what you have been reading for the last week. We need to see:
    •   The days that you have read
    • What you have read (book, pages etc.)
    • A brief description or comment about your reading
    • Anything that you have learnt
    • Any other comments, questions or queries that you may have.

    b) Write a book review for a book that you have recently read. This should include:
    • Title, author and whether it is fiction/non-fiction
    • Star rating (out of 10) and reasons why
    • A description of the book – describe characters, plot, settings
    • What you liked/didn’t like
    • Who you would recommend this book to. Who would it be suitable for? Age/interests
    • An illustration from the book. If it is fiction, use your imagination and the description in the text to create your own illustration of any scene. This can                 go into your home learning pack.
    • Examples of literary effects – similes, metaphors, alliteration, personification, onomatopoeia
    • The story could be better if…….

  2. Read the following text and answer the questions:

Who were the main actors?  Why do you think this was?

How would an actor show a different emotion or character?

Which word means the same as shaped?

Maths

Most of you obviously aren’t in school a the moment but the following task can still be done from home. It’s perhaps easier to look at the recipes below, but if you use your own, tell us what the recipe was and still use the prices below.

History

We have read a little bit about Greek theatre today.  Can you find out some more information.  Share five facts with the class.

Any questions, let us know via the blog or e mail, as usual.

We are really missing you all.

Take care,

Mrs Millard, Mrs Leeming and Mrs Munro XXX

The name is very nice it’s a non-fiction book I would give it a solid 8/10 I gave it a 8 because it’s one of those books what you can read more then once and you want to make the author write another book . The age you would read it is 8-14 also the name is an alliteration and a very happy story x

A book that I have recently recently read is Diary of a wimpy kid The Meltdown the author is Jeff Kinney and this book is a fiction book meaning not real.I would rate my book a solid 10/10 because that in my opinion this is a really goofy book and it just makes me laugh. The characters of this book are: Greg,Rodrick,Manny,Rowley ,Mum,Dad the plot of this Diary of a wimpy kid book is that its winter and you know how winter is meant to be cold but its hot so everyone is calling it ‘wacky weather’.What i liked about this book is everything the book is just to awesome i don’t dislike anything about this book

Take care with punctuation – you didn’t end with a full stop, missed apostrophes and the word ‘I’ is always a capital – you know that!

I am reading Tom gates epic adventure by Liz Pichon. I love the book it’s a non- fiction book and I would give it a 10/10 because there’s free collecting cards inside. All her books are really funny. In the story there’s a boy called Tom Gates he has a sister who is really rude. His grandma and his grandpa ( aka the fossils) went on holiday all around the world and when they got back Tom thought that how could they be so bendy.

    Good Afternoon Mrs Millard,
    Here is my English,

I have been reading the script of the lord of the flies. I read on a Tuesday, Thursday and a Sunday. I read the whole script that I have so far. We are getting new parts every week. I’m really enjoying the script so far and I cant wait to read more. I have learnt that I enjoy reading scripts instead of stories and books.

    This is my book review..

The title of the script is The Lord of The Flies. William Golding is the author. It’s a fiction text, I rate it a 9.9/10 because I’m really really enjoying it! Jack is a bossy character that is sometimes selfish but most of the time he does what’s best for the group. They are all stranded on an island, yesterdays English reminded me of this. I like all of it so far, its interesting and exiting. I would rate it age 12 to 12+ because a lot of the language is hard to understand.

I haven’t done much work today because I had silhouette this morning, I was doing Musical Theatre and I have been doing homework for my mid summer nights dream session later.

Plays were either spoken or sung in rhyme.
The theaters were open air and built in a semi-circular shape with rows of tiered stone seating around it.
The theaters were built on hillsides in the open air and could often hold more than 18,000 spectators.
In the centre of the theatre was a circular dancing floor (orchestra)
Actors in comedies wore bright colours. Actors in tragedies wore dark colours.

    Maths 1:
    a. & b.
    For a total 50 people.
    Tea & Coffee: 1 teabag box = 80 teabags. 2x1L milk, 200g coffee, sugar = £1+2x £0.75+ £2.80+ £0.70= £6
    10 vanilla cupcakes = (250g butter,100g caster sugar,2 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla extract)
15 chocolate brownies = (180g butter, 250g caster sugar, 3 eggs, 80g plain flour, 180g dark chocolate, 50g white chocolate)
    50 cupcakes + 60 brownies
    Butter ~2kg= 8x £1.20= £9.60
    Caster sugar ~1.5kg= 2x £1.60= £3.20
    Eggs ~22= 4x £0.90 = £3.60
    Plain flour ~320g=1x£0.40=£0.40
    Dark Choc ~720g=4x£0.75=£3
White Choc ~200g=2x£0.75=£1.50 (there is no price for white chocolate but my Dad said it will be £0.75 same as the other chocolates)
    Total cost of items: £6+£9.60+£3.20+£0.40+£3+£1.50=£23.70

    Maths 2.
    1 cup of tea = £1
    1 cupcake or brownie = £1
If 50 people all have a cup of tea and a cake, I’d make £100. £23.70 were my costs, so I would have made a profit of £76.30 for the Red Cross.

    Hello Mrs Leeming,
This is my history from yesterday.

    Theatre
Women were not allowed to perform at all, even if it was singing, dancing or even acting. If they were acting and only had a small role, they would usually have 2 and they would not change costumes they would change masks. The Ancient Greek actors would wear wigs and funny masks. All the Greek theatres were outside.
