Tuesday 5th May – Year 2 Home Learning Tasks

Hi Year 2

We hope you are ready for another fantastic day of home learning. We think it’s important to remember that…

Here are today’s learning activities.

English – Reading

Look at the picture.

What do you know is happening? ‘I know…’

What do you infer is happening? ‘I infer…’

Why do you know/infer this?

Write your responses in full sentences.

English – Writing

Lots of people are showing kindness to one another at the moment.

Has there been an occasion when you have shown kindness to someone? What did you do and why? How did it make you feel?

Has someone shown you kindness? What did they do and why?

Remember to use a conjunction when writing your full sentences.

Sounds Write – Phonics (endings) ‘y into i es’

Review: Read the following Year 2 words – cries, would, flies, because, climb, plant.

Read: hurries, carries, marries, parties.

Write: babies, cities, families, ponies.

Dictation: The party is full of families from many cities. The baby cries loudly so her mum hurries her outside.

Maths Basic Skills

Listen  to ‘The Three Times Table Song’ to help you remember.

Can you write the three times table correctly e.g 1×3=

Maths Learning Task

The following children have timed themselves running around the school field.

Who was the quickest?

Who was the slowest?

By how many seconds was Amina faster than Daisy?

By how many seconds was Mo faster than Billy?

What is the difference in seconds between Mo’s time and Jen’s time?

Can you write these as number sentences? What do you notice? Can you see any patterns? Does anything stay the same/change?

Handwriting

Warm up: Wiggle your fingers up high, down low, to the side and in front of you.
Stretch your fingers out like fireworks eight times.
Can you write the following letters joined up at least four times? Remember to leave a finger space.
* cat
* bat
* mop
* top

Tick your neatest formation and be proud of your handwriting.

    “I know he rolled over off his roller skates and that the other boy helped him up because he is on the floor.
    I infer the little boy with the roller skates tripped over one of the poles. he didn’t start crying because he had a helmet on.”

    “I writ a letter to the old peoples home to make them feel happy because they aren’t allowed any visitors. It made me feel happy because he writ back to me. He told me everything about him and I drawed a picture and so did he.”
