Wednesday 29th April – Year 6

It’s Workday Wednesday (Kaylend – that is for you!)

SPaG:

Complete this lesson learning how to turn direct speech into quotes.

https://www.thenational.academy/year-6/english/newspaper-using-direct-speech-to-write-quotes-year-6-wk1-4/

Let me know what you have learnt.

Maths:

Here are the answers from yesterday’s reasoning problems.

Reasoning answers

Write your score in the comments box and feel free to ask for any explanations.

Now have a go at some of these word problems (remember to break them down into steps first).

Word problems

Science:

Today we are going to start learning about electricity. We will be focusing on the symbols that are used when creating an electric circuit. Different symbols represent different objects within the circuit for example there will be a symbol that represents a bulb.

First, read the information below so that you have a clear understanding of all of the different parts that are needed in a circuit.

Think about symbols that you see around you. Why do we use them?

Here are some examples:

The symbols that we are going to learn are:

– bulb

– wire

– cell (scientific name for one battery)

– battery (scientific name for cells put together i.e. more than one battery put together)

– closed switch

– open switch

– motor

– buzzer

Challenge yourself by seeing if you can draw a symbol that would represent these objects. It doesn’t matter if you get it right, just think about how the symbol would look. To give you an idea:

Β This symbol represents our school.

Here are the correct symbols:

Can you work out which symbol represents which component from a circuit?

Were you correct?

There is an extra one on here for a bulb as they can sometimes be represented in different ways.

Task:

Complete a poster, leaflet or explanation text that explains everything that you have learnt about electrical symbols.

A lot of symbols are used for a certain amount of speed they should go or a caution sign to say they are not aloud to go to a certain place or part. These are the ones I see the the most.

Why do you think we use symbols for electrical circuits?

      P.S.
      aloud – speaking out loud
allowed – able to do something.
