Reception Home Learning Tuesday 28th April

Good morning Children!

The first thing for you to do today is to watch the story of The Black Rabbit here:

I hope you enjoyed it – I know we had it a few times in the Hargreaves class and it is one of my favourites!

Did you realise what the Black Rabbit was? It was the White Rabbit’s shadow! Today I thought you could make a puppet of a rabbit and see if you can make a shadow.

You just need to have a rabbit shape like this:

Your grown up can help you cut it out of paper or card. Then you can stick it to a lolly stick or a pen or pencil. Shine a light at the puppet – you can use a torch or even the light from a mobile phone – and see if you can make a shadow. Put the light closer and then further away and see if you can notice what happens to the shadow. Please let me know what you find out.

Why do you think the Black Rabbit disappeared in the wood? – Tell your grown up.

Maths:

Subitise with Jack Hartman – can you see how many are there without counting? – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1Mazc-SsG0

Write down the number bonds to 10 that you can remember, how many have you remembered? When you have done it use your fingers to work out the rest.

Phonics – remember – your child only has to do one set, not all.

A

Write the sounds
v – start in between the top and bottom line, down up.
w – start in between the top and bottom line, down up, down up.
z – start in between the top and bottom line, across, down, across.

Write the sentence – adult to say the sentence and the child to write what they hear: Jez is up at the top.
Re-read The big carrot – https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/api/digital_books/1394.html

B
Practice writing f, g, h, i, j and their capital letters. Remember where to start – is it a tall letter, a small letter or a tail letter? Make sure you move your pencil the right way.
Write the sentence – adult to say the sentence and the child to write what they hear:
I wish to play in the rain but I can not.
Re-read Ducks! – https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/api/digital_books/1358.html

C
Practice writing f, g, h, i, j and their capital letters. Remember where to start – is it a tall letter, a small letter or a tail letter? Make sure you move your pencil the right way.
Write the sentence – adult to say the sentence and the child to write what they hear:
My dog has big paws and my cat has sharp claws. The cat is fluffy. (You can tell the children that the ee in fluffy is the same as in happy).
Re-read Jack! – https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/api/digital_books/1285.html

I hope you have fun playing with shadows – if you can’t make a shadow puppet, you can always use your hands!

Understanding the World

Mrs Tucker’s robin is still sitting on her eggs – day and night.  The daddy robin is now coming to the box to feed her but the eggs have not hatched yet.  Can you make a scientific prediction and predict when they will hatch.  She laid her last egg on 15th April and they usually take from 12 -14 days to hatch.  Here is a picture of the eggs and of her in the garden on the washing line.

Have a great day 🙂

    Understanding the world:

Alex has counted 14 days on the calendar from the day the last egg was laid by Mrs.Tucker’s robin
( 15.04) and it looks like the eggs will hatch either today or tomorrow 🙂

I didn’t spot this comment yesterday! I am glad you enjoyed using the puppet Zanti, and you are right about it getting bigger and bigger and bigger! – great observations! Mrs O’Hagan 🙂
